My thanks to the Crufts Committee for allowing me the pleasure and privilege of judging our wonderful breed and to the exhibitors for the lovely entry and for their patience. I apologise for the late finish but I believe that the last class should be given the same consideration as the first. Thanks also to my two ring stewards, Mr Nitsch and Mrs Owens. I do have some observations I would like to share with you. All bites were correct with the exception of one overshot mouth, there were several runny eyes and quite a few round, large eyes and a few light eyes. We appear to be losing our lovely ivy leaf shaped ear which is being replaced by large, heavy, wide set ears all of which spoil the dogs’ expression. There were some overweight dogs and some with very large, soft coats which would not be ‘fit for function’. If one of these fell off a barge their coats would pull them down very quickly. Some ‘odd’ movement in a number of dogs that appeared to be ‘rolling’ which might be seen when a dog is pacing, although they weren’t. Wide fronts and close rears are still evident. Mostly feet were good although some were over trimmed. I was pleased to see lots of double curls in the tails and only a few that were set a little low. All of that said I was spoiled for choice in most classes and was very happy with my winners.
VD (6,2) All were a little reluctant to use their ears but I managed to see them up at some time. 1 Brunt’s Ch Zandvoort Dream Machine. 8 year old dog. Lovely shape and size, coat was a little soft but is a good colour. Correct wedge shaped head, dark eyes, ears were set OK. Well placed shoulders, strong loin and high tail set. Neat feet, good bone and strong muscle tone. Moved well. 2 Quicray’s Int.Fr/Ger/Lux/B/Nl/Aus/Sw Ch Dolce Vita Dyck of Bloom White WW. 9 and a half years old. Much to like about this boy, darker colour and harsher coat texture than 1 but not so positive on the move. Masculine head, correct eye shape and colour, square in outline, tail well set. 3 Wilkin’s Ch Pommary Quick Silver at Whizzkees AW(S). 10 years old. Completing a trio of lovely boys, much of the above comments apply, good coat colour and texture which is correctly marked. Balanced wedge shaped head, his eyes are a little rounder and his ears a little wider set that I would have preferred. Good size and substance. Not so positive in rear action.
PD (5) 1 Peck and Matthews’ Byquy Workin Boots. DCC and BOB. 11 and a half months. As he came into the ring I wanted to get my hands on him and I was not disappointed. He handles so well for a young dog. Excellent coat texture, colour and markings presenting a neat, square outline. Balanced wedge shape head which is nicely marked with dark muzzle and spectacles, correct eye shape and well set ears. Good shoulder placing, well sprung, deep rib cage, short strong loin and high tail set. Neat feet and good bone with enough length of leg that allows light, clean, brisk movement which is true front and rear. He couldn’t be denied the DCC and BOB. 2 Harris’ Neradmik Carry Grant for Watchkees (Imp Can). 9 months. Sweet boy who is still very much a baby but has all the attributes to do well in the future. Lighter coat colour of correct texture and length. Nice wedge shaped head, dark muzzle, dark eyes and spectacles, ear placement is OK. Good tail set and carriage. Not so positive in front movement at present, just needs to tighten up. 3 Shepherd’s Lyntova I Am Legend 11 and three quarter months. Bigger, darker coloured dog carrying a very large, softer coat. Very short outline, well set tail. Good feet and enough bone. Preferred movement of the winners.
JD (6) 1 Lindsay’s Mezanda Merry Starshower. Good size dog, square outline with a good length of leg. Nice tight feet and good bone. Coat of good colour and markings of correct texture. Lovely balanced, wedge shape head, dark muzzle, well set ears. Good shoulder placement and length of neck, deep brisket. Strong loin and good tail set. Lacking a little ruff today which would complete the picture. Moved OK. 2 Pattison’s Zandvoort Getting’ Purrsonal for Eastkees (AI). Nice size, short coupled dog. Darker coloured coat that is well marked of correct texture. Not quite the balance of 1. Well set tail, good bone and feet. 3 Brunt’s Zandvoort Purrsonal Life (AI). Much the same comment as for 2, preferred the neck and shoulder placement of 2.
PGD (8,1) 1 Atkinson’s Winklestar Skoll. Well grown, masculine dog. Not in his best coat but what he has is a good colour and texture. Nicely balanced wedge shape head with dark muzzle and eyes. good ear set. Well laid shoulder, deep brisket, short strong loin and good tail set. Good length of leg and enough bone. Moved OK. 2 Miles, Dean and Isles Neradmik Kiss Chase with Lekkerbek. Similar size dog to 1, shorter coupled and lighter in colour with a softer coat. Broader in head proportions, preferred the expression of the winner Nicely put together, good length of leg. Moved well. 3 Hudson’s Shelderon Sacred Shadow. Well marked coat of good colour and texture. Nice head and expression, slightly shorter on the leg which spoils his balance, moved well.
LD (6) 1 Atkinson and Peck’s Byquy Will You Be Rich. Upstanding dog of good coat colour and markings of correct texture and length. Balanced wedge shape head, dark eyes and well set ears. Well bodied and a good length of leg with tidy feet. Strong loin and high set tail. A little more ruff would complete the picture. Moved well. 2 Lindsay’s Mezanda Madog’s Storm. Darker dog of good size and substance. Well marked coat of correct texture. Wedge shape head, dark eyes and muzzle. His ears are a little wider set than I prefer but are a nice size. Slightly longer cast than 1, high tail set. Good length of leg and enough bone, neat feet. Moved well. 3 Robinson’s Samkees From Malta With Love. Nice size, short coupled dog carrying a very large coat. Coat colour is good with striking contrasts. Dark eyes and muzzle. Good bone and feet. Moved well.
OD (10,2) 1 Sharp-Bale’s Ch Samkees With Love To Neradmik RDCC. Good size, upstanding dog in good coat of correct texture, dark colour with good contrasting markings. Heavier head than I would prefer and his ear set is a little wide, lovely dark eyes and muzzle. Well placed shoulders and good depth of brisket, strong, short coupled body and well set tail giving a pleasing outline. Good bone and feet. He handles very nicely. Moved out straight and clean but lacked the brisk, sharp action which made him appear a tad heavy. That said I was pleased to award him the RDCC. 2 Miles and Dean Ch Neradmik Family Affair With Lekkerbek. Mature dog slightly smaller than the winner and much lighter in coat colour so marking are not as clean as they could be. Strong, short coupled body, good bone and feet. Moved well. 3 Harris’ Ch Newadmik All About The Boy For Watchkees ShCh JW. Litter brother to 2, unfortunately, not in his best clothes today but much the same comments apply. Handles very nicely.
VB (5) 1 Passmore’s Torrikees with Attitude. 10 years old. She still has it, attitude that is. Amazing for 10. Correct wedge shape head, sweet expression, good eyes shape and ear set. Nicely bodied, high set tail, in good coat of correct texture and nicely contrasting colour. Compact outline. Neat feet and good bone. Moved well. A credit to her owner. 2 Gate’s Lacetrom Cruivie ShCh. 7 and a half years old. Much the same remarks apply as for the winner, not quite as feminine and slightly longer in body. Moved well. 3 Hill’s Plymkees Limited Edition Sh CM. 11 years old. Such a game old girl, she gives her handler everything. Sweet head and expression. Good coat of rich colour. Very good body condition. Unfortunately, not so positive on the move today.
PB (7) Spoilt for choice in this class, some nice puppies went card- less. 1 Passmore’s Torrikees Lust for Life. 10 and a half months RBCC. My notes say ‘gorgeous, so feminine’. Strong, square outline, good coat of lovely contrasting colour. The sweetest head and expression, dark muzzle and eyes, neat, well placed ears. Good length of neck and well laid shoulders, short, strong loin, lovely high tail set. Good length of leg and enough bone, neat feet. Moved with ease and grace. 2 Reed-Peck’s Byquy Walkin Boots. 11 months. Lovely type of bitch, pretty head and expression. Good eye shape and colour, well set ears, although a little reluctant to use them today. Well bodied for one so young, short, strong loin topped with a well set tail. Good bone and feet. Moved out well. 3 Sharp-Bales Neradmik Grace Kelly. 9 months. Very sweet, smaller bitch, quite the baby in this class. Correct, well marked coat of good texture. Nicely proportioned wedge shape head, dark muzzle and eyes, ears are a little bit wide set. Not the easy movement of 1 and 2.
JB (7) Close decision between 1 and 2 and could easily have changed places. 1 Lindsay’s Mezanda Melys Sparkle. Nice solid bitch in good coat with the correct texture which is nicely marked. Sweet head and expression, Dark eyes and well set ears Good neck and shoulders, deep brisket, strong loin and well set tail. Good bone and feet. Moved well. 2 Hickson’s Kichigai Magic Dancer. All of the above applies. So pretty and so stylish making a lovely outline, shows herself to advantage. I really was splitting hairs but just preferred the size on 1. 3 Tew’s Zandvoort Purrsonal Touch For Bargeway (AI). Slightly smaller girl, nice square outline, correct wedge shaped head, dark eyes, well set ears. Well bodied, short strong loin with good tail set. Moved a little wide in front.
PGB (13,2) 1 McKean’s Kichigai This Girl Is Mine At Yawren BCC. Super young bitch making a lovely outline, strong and squarely built but retaining her femininity. Good coat texture and markings. Pretty, balanced, wedge shape head, dark muzzle, dark eyes and lovely ear set. Good neck and shoulders, strong, short loin and high tail set. Good depth of brisket and length of leg. So stylish and typical could not be ignored. Delighted to award her, her 1st CC. 2 Bates’ Kichigai Indiana Wants Me. My notes say ‘very similar to 1′, when checking I see that they are litter sisters and they are alike in lots of ways. Preferred the neck and shoulders and the bone of the winner. 3 Hattersley’s Torrikees Sea Breeze. Another very nice bitch with lots to like.
LB (6) 1 Gregory’s Amikirs Fabulicious Time JW. Lovely bitch of good size. Correct coat texture, colour could be a little deeper. Sweet head and expression, good eye shape and colour, well set ears. Good body, well set tail. Nice bone and feet, Moved OK. 2 Atkinson and Matthews’ Winklestar Anthe With Valindale. Smart young bitch making a lovely square outline, feminine head and expression. Correct coat texture and good colour, Well made throughout. Preferred the movement of 1. 3 White’s Neradmik Dear Darling Of Whitchakees. Well made bitch of good size and substance. Coat colour was a little light. Preferred the femininity and movement of the winner.
OB (12,4) 1 Passmore’s Ch Torrikees Victoria’s Secret. Dam to the RBCC winner. Lovely mature bitch of good size and colour. Strong, square outline, sweet head and expression. Good neck and shoulders, short, strong loin and high set tail. Neat feet and good bone. Moved well. 2 Quicray’s Venway Dolce Vita Dream Girl Jun Ch. Different type but so much to like. Lovely head and expression, not the coat of 1 but of correct texture and good colour. Well bodied, good bone and feet. Moved OK. 3 Gregory’s Ch Amikirs Bubblelicious JW. A very stylish, balanced bitch in good coat and condition. Moved well. Preferred the head and expression of the winner.
GC (2) 1 Gregory’s Amikirs Fabulicious Time JW. 2 Saunders’ Liefkees Annabell. Nice bitch of good size. Rich colour coat of correct texture. Nice head and expression, larger ears than I prefer. Well bodied, high tail set. Not as feminine as 1. Moved OK.
