The Keeshond Club held a ch show. Type, size, colour & quality is variable, from compact alert dogs, off standing coats, balanced heads, strong jaws, to soft coated smaller Kees with shorter forefaces, round eyes, uneven teeth & wide set pale ears. Some had heavy bone, some had thick plush coats with atypical watermarked shadings, others retained strong cream colour well beyond puppyhood. Preparation varied & that included teeth. Temperaments were excellent.

Keeshond movement should be ‘clean, brisk, straight & true’. Historically, smaller dogs went to the barges & needed to be compact & trot to maintain balance, if they had been rangy many would have gone overboard.

BIS & BV was Ch/Am Ch Kemont’s Skyline’s Game Boy, alert & self possessed dog with great ring presence, beautifully presented, in fine condition, stood foursquare, demonstrated excellent type, handsome balanced wedge head set on a strong neck, clearly etched face shadings, dark eyes, neat well set ears, off-standing double coat of the clearest silver with black tips & classic shadings, a seasoned campaigner at one with his experience handler who allowed him his feet, trotted effortlessly around the ring. One fit dog & a credit to his breeding; RBIS, Pommary Ruff ‘N Ready at Valindale, like it! An alert & promising young dog of good balance & proportion, up on the leg, tight feet, good head, alert expression, dark eye, well set ears, strong neck, well muscled body, off standing coat, correct clear markings, good affinity with his handler who had the measure of him moving him briskly & preventing him from ‘wandering’. Interested to note I gave his sire a CC some years back; & BP, Foxifayre Pieces Of Eight among Siptzcav, very promising alert baby, hugely full of himself & enjoying his day out. Nice & compact, thick coat which is cream at present, dark eye, neat well set ears used well, strong little body, well set & carried tail, bounced around the ring.

MPD 1 Day’s Foxifayre Pieces Of Eight among Siptzcav. BP; 2 Tew’s Bargeway Mr Bojangles, much larger lad who doesn’t need to grow much more. Very strong head, rather distant in expression. Good dark well shaped eye, ears used well, completely different type to 1, good shape & firm body, very well boned. Thick double coat, but colour has to clear. Showed & moved well for handler, but lacked the sparkle of 1.
PD 1 Tew’s Bargeway Keen To Rumble, larger youngster, quite cream in colour, everything about him said strength, he looked quite powerful for one so young, masculine head, good dark eye with rather distant expression, alert ears, deep chest, well developed body, quite heavy bone. Tail carried close. Covered the ground with ease, attentive to his handler, but I didn’t find him typical; 2 Reed’s Byquy Because You Can, much smaller but well trained youngster of very good type & colour. He needs to grow on. Stood foursquare, showed very well, moved briskly & responded well to his handler.
JD 1 Matthews’ Pommary Ruff ‘N Ready at Valindale. RCC & RBIS; 2 Eggleston’s Bert von Ricara, well trained & well presented quality youngster, good colour & shadings. Smaller, less mature & slightly longer cast than 1. Good head, neat ears, good pigmentation. I would prefer a more almond eye. Showed well, but slightly unsettled on the move.
YD 1 Wadmore-Smith’s Hunnivole’s Woody Valentine, balanced silhouette in full silver coat of good texture, masculine well proportioned wedge head, dark eye, alert ears set a touch wide. Strong neck, good ruff, well conditioned body, well set tail with good plume carried close, stood foursquare. Would like to see him shown on a looser lead; 2 Lindsay’s Enreveyar Exceptional with Mezanda, easy going charmer, off-standing coat of b/silver contrasts, masculine wedge head, strong jaw, eye dark enough, good neck carrying profuse ruff, strong muscled body, well sprung rib, firm topline, well set plumed tail, strong quarters, good bone, hocks well let down, strong feet, very nice rear assembly. Has a lot to offer but not putting all in here, so paid the price.
ND 1 Burwin & Tedrow’s Hoadsberg Alexei, well presented masculine dog of good size & balance, strong head, dark eye, well set neat ears, well sprung rib, firm body, strong quarters, well set tail with good plume, thick close double coat. Would prefer clearer colour & shadings. Compliant to handler, stood foursquare. Lacked Keeshond vivacity when gaited.
UGD 1 Davies’ Rossvale Frankly My Dear Kyross, energetic, thick dark coat colour. Slightly long cast & a little tired. Masculine head, but a touch short in muzzle. Good condition, well boned, well set tail. Wilful & went like a train, reminded me of his sire but his handler had control.
PGD 1 Wilkin’s Onyx Sampson, well conditioned darker dog, stood foursquare, kind expression, alert eye, neat ears, well proportioned head, strong neck, straight front, well ribbed body, good bone, tight feet, at one with handler, trotted lightly & showed well. Short on coat, but coats can grow; 2 Baker’s Foxifayre Born Free, well presented with modern but masculine head, good expression. Slightly short in muzzle, I prefer a more almond eye, ears set slightly wide. Well bodied, carried more coat than his rival. Not as settled moving.
LD 1 Luckhurst’s Gavimir Checkmate, handsome & confident with well proportioned head, dark eyes, striking face markings, dark pigment, good mouth. Longer cast, but well ribbed with strong quarters. Beautiful silver/b coat, clean legs, tight feet, showed well. Not so brisk on the move; 2 Pattisson’s Eastkees Don’t Say A Word, modern shape, shorter muzzle, nice expression, well balanced, good reach of neck, well constructed, enough muscle & bone for his size, tail set well & carried close, good feet. Coat needs conditioning. Nice dog, moved & showed quite well.
OD 1 Cullen’s Ch/Am Ch Kemont’s Skyline’s Game Boy. CC, BV & BIS; 2 Hopkins’ Helkeesen Regal Surfer among Serenaubach, alert dog, different type from 1. Good presentation, light in colour, wedge head, small ears. Would prefer a darker muzzle & stronger shadings. Short coupled, well muscled & bone, clean legs, tight feet, competent handler who moved him fast, stood foursquare, showed well.
VD Under 10 years 1 Lindsay’s Mezanda’s Star Peformer, well conditioned, alert, masculine balanced head, quizzical dark eye, well set ears, strong neck, well ribbed & muscled, good bone, high set tail, strong quarters, hocks well let down, tight feet, dark coat slightly weathered, moved briskly, showed well; 2 Miles’ Allforus Frosting over Lekkerbek, much smaller compact dog of high quality & conformation, well balanced head, alert expression, well ribbed body, correct bone for size, well set tail with double curl, condition & presentation very good, handled & shown well.
Over 10 years 1 Austin’s Chotahkees What A Dream, compact, balanced, in nice condition, good outline, plenty of coat, clear colour, good shading, well handled, showed well; 2 Harding’s Amikirs Pagani, well presented, longer cast than 1 but good type, colour & shadings. Masculine balanced head, kind expression, used ears well. Not quite in tune with handler here & unsettled on the move.
BBE D 1 Hill’s Plymkees Cool Dude, nice honest dog, clear colour & markings, good textured coat, masculine well marked head, good pigmentation, pleasing expression, straight front, on good neck, neat ears, dark eye, well sprung ribs, firm body, well set tail, empathetic with handler, moved steadily; 2 M Star Performer, fine dog, but coat a touch weathered compared to freshness of 1.

MPB 1 Ricara Let It Be, very pretty little bitch, just 6 months & developing well, good shape, sweet expression, stood foursquare, dark eye, neat ears, dark muzzle, good neck, plumed tail. Needs to settle on the move but showed promise; 2 Pattison’s Eastkees Timeless Love, promising pretty bitch with feminine head. Preferred ears & colour of 1. Compact, well ribbed, stood foursquare, moved very nicely.
PB 1 Bell’s Foxifayre Hidden Treasure Allforus, nice square young bitch, balanced head, dark expressive eyes, neat well set ears, full coated. Colour needs to clear. Good neck, firm body, good tailset, well trained, lively. Pretty promising youngster. BPB; 2 Reed’s Byquy Because Of You, smaller, alert, well trained, feminine head, expressive dark eye. Would prefer a smaller ear, not quite as square as I would like, but she had a good firm body. Well ribbed, double coated with enough shadings, moved briskly, showed well.
JB 1 Hopkins’ Torrikees Shakira among Serenaubach, nice square feminine bitch, balanced head, sweet expression, dark eye, neat well carried ears, good neck, firm body, well set tail, good bone, tight feet, well textured double coat, stood foursquare. Was moved too fast; 2 Luckhurst’s Gavimar Black Swan, still a puppy, but well conditioned & beautifully presented with striking silver/b coat of correct texture, balanced well marked head, sweet expression, good mouth, dark muzzle, dark eye, erect ears. Longer cast than 1. Well set plumed tail, showed well, but lacked briskness on the move.
YB 1 Wadmore-Smith’s Hunnivoles Pepsi Rock, nicely presented silver coated very feminine bitch, well marked, pretty head set on good neck, neat ears, expressive eyes, well conditioned body, enough bone, plumed tail carried close giving a pleasing outline, tight feet & I would have preferred her to have been given them when moving; 2 Matthews’ Chotahkees Tickety Boo at Valindale, all quality, very well presented, very pretty but smaller bitch was well trained & handled, sported a full nicely marked & correctly shaded double coat, good firm body, liked her feminine head with bright alert expression, good neck. Preferred the size & tighter feet of 1.
NB (0).
UGB 1 Harding’s Amikirs Amour, bigger bitch, well presented & trained, profuse clearly shaded coat of good colour & texture, good expression & face shadings, good body & bone, moved quite well; 2 Lewis’ Leazehond Brightstar Night, dark coated older style sweet bitch, liked her intelligent dark eye, well set ears, sweet expression, nice to go over, balanced body, head well set on good neck, short coupled, enough bone, strong feet. Unsettled on the move, but very nice to have her in the class.
PGB 1 Eggleton’s Martellkees Forget Me Not by Ricara, not the biggest, but all quality & beautifully presented, very pretty well marked bitch, so feminine & so square, balanced head, really neat ears, sweet expression, well proportioned, well conditioned body, shorter off standing coat with clear correct markings, well plumed tail, showed beautifully, moved steadily. CC; 2 Waller’s Brykin Bandora, good sized bitch of completely different type than 1, pretty well marked head, good expressive eye. Longer can than 1, but balanced with clear silver coat of very good texture. Would like to see her body up a little. Well set & carried tail, happy on the move, showed well. LB 1 Bardsley & Ring’s Baleissa Indian Summer, good size, confident, well conditioned, well presented bitch, nicely marked head, good expressive dark eye, strong neck, good ruff, firm body, full double coat, well set & carried tail with good plume. Was gaited rather faster than I like to see; 2 Rose’s Neradmik Kisses ‘N Giggles for Esorkees, much smaller bitch of excellent colour & markings, beautifully presented, feminine head with very clear shadings & expressive eye, well set neat ears, moved steadily. Would like a little more of her.
OB 1 Bardsley’s Ch Baleissa Catwalk Queen, well presented good size bitch, balanced outline, strong well marked head with confident but rather bold gaze, very good condition, strong body, well set & carried tail, good bone. Gaited rather fast; 2 Matthews’ Eastkees Winter Mist, well presented, compact, somewhat smaller bitch than 1. Feminine head & expression, but eyes may be set a touch close. Well set neat ears & nice pigmentation, clean legs & feet, adequate bone for size, moved at a good speed, but a touch close here.
VB Under 10 years 1 Sharpe-Bale’s Ch Sturtmoor Crazy for Neradmik, have judged her before & was pleased to find she maintains her quality, movement & showmanship, alert, balanced, confident, still has the clearest of colour, gaited at the correct speed. In the bitch challenge I preferred her type, structure, colour & elegance to her rival champions & my other class winners. CC; 2 Passmore’s Trumpet’s Hand Of Fate for Torrikees, ‘smiler’, beautifully presented & a very pretty bitch of clear silver colour & full coat who was thoroughly enjoying herself, very good overall quality. A little finer in body than 1 & not as settled on the move.
Over 10 years 1 Lindsay’s Julyn Jadzia at Mezanda, square darker bitch, excellent bone, good muscletone, classic well balanced head, expressive dark eyes, well set ears, strong neck & body, tight feet, moved briskly & still had a spring in her step. Nice to see her descendants on the cards; 2 Bell’s Ch Allforus Magic ‘N Ice, ultra feminine, lovely personality, more modern in type than 1, short coupled. Good double coat which is slightly cream in colour & a little faded here. Feminine head, sweet expression, well set ears. Shorter in muzzle than 1. Moved quite well, but slightly down on her pasterns.
BBEB 1 Newman’s Leazehond Maddy Moonlight, have judged her before. In full coat which has darkened over the years, good balanced head, dark eye, neat well set ears, short coupled, firm body, good bone without coarseness, balanced & bouncy on the move, stood attentively with alert expression, showed well; 2 Hill’s Plymkees Limited Edition, larger bitch completely different in type from 1. Stood foursquare, showed well, balanced body, full coat with clear markings, good length of leg. Unsettled on the move.
Brace 1 Hopkins’.
Team 1 Lindsay.
