I thoroughly enjoyed my day at Doncaster. The atmosphere was great, very friendly and cosy. I want to congratulate the club for running such a pleasant show and thank all of you, especially Anji Marfleet and her husband Dougal for their hospitality and company during the weekend, and my efficient ring stewards Irene Howe, Gordon Lister and Ruth Burgess. Lovely to meet and get to know all of you! And thank you all the the exhibitors for showing your lovely dogs and making such a good entry.
About the dogs: it is always pleasant to judge in UK, because the dogs are well trained and the handlers know what to do. As anywhere, the overall quality was somewhat mixed, but I was very pleased with the challenge line-up both in dogs and bitches. There were some dogs too small and fine in bone, and some short-legged ones. Actually, Keeshond is the biggest variety of the German Spitz, and there should be an obvious difference between the varieties.
However, the thing that bothered me most was that many of the dogs shown were carrying too much weight. If that is combined with a big coat, the general impression becomes just too heavy, the neck disappears and the front becomes too wide. So I suggest some dogs should lose a lot of weight, exercise a little more and they would look much better.
I understand that a Spitz type dog can’t be in full coat at all times, so I tried not to put too much emphasis on which stage the coat is just now. But if the texture of the coat is correct, it is not growing to be too long.
MINOR PUPPY DOG – 3, 1AB. 1ST : ATKINSON’S WINKLESTAR HADAR, a very nice puppy, short, compact body, nice head and expression, moves well. Great potential. BOS puppy. 2ND : MCCORMACK’S GALLOWTREE GHILLIE, still somewhat immature and still in puppy coat. Good short body. At this stage the ears look large and he still needs to get more substance, but correct in type and proportions, promising.
PUPPY DOG – 2. 1ST : HARRIS & MAJOR’S NERADMIK ALL ABOUT THE BOY FOR WATCHKEES, short and cobby. Pleasing head. Parallel movements, but could just have a little more drive in hind action. The tail could be tighter curled. 2ND : MILES & DEAN’S NERADMIK FAMILY AFFAIR WITH LEKKERBEK, short body, could have slightly heavier bone. A little upright in shoulder and the elbows could be tighter. Good tail, moves well.
JUNIOR DOG – 2. 1ST : MILES, CULLEN & BROWN’S ROSSVALE’S LEGACY FOR LEKKERBEK, short and cobby. Nice topline, good bone, good coat, moves well, high set ears. 2ND : SHEPHERD’S KICHIGAI LORD OF THE DANCE, a little light in bone and a shade longer cast. Beautiful colour. The under jaw could be stronger, dark but round eyes.
YEARLING DOG – 1. 1ST : SHEPHERD’S KICHIGAI LORD OF THE DANCE
NOVICE DOG – 3, 1AB. 1ST : MCCORMACK’S GALLOWTREE GHILLIE. 2ND : BARKLEY’S AMIKIRS NO REGRETS, a masculine dog, carrying too much weight and the general impression becomes heavy. A little wide in front. Rather wide and round in skull, movement could be more effortless.
POST GRADUATE DOG – 6. A difficult class, consisting of different types. 1ST : PECK, MATTHEWS & STEWART’S KLOMPEN’S WHO’S YOUR DADDY (IMP CAN) TAF NAF, the obvious winner of the class, an excellent masculine dog. Strong, short and compact. Good body, moves well. 2ND : SHEPHERD’S REESBURG RAINBOW WARRIOR A short-bodied dog but not in full coat at the moment, and that’s why the colour is not at its best either. Good bone. 3RD : BATTRAM’S EDNAARON HAWKWEED OF VANSTRAND, a pretty dog but could be more masculine, rather small in size.
LIMIT DOG – 8, 3AB. 1ST : TEW’S BARGEWAY KEEN TO RUMBLE, Good size, masculine and strong. Correct proportions. Coat a little short to-day. The under jaw could be stronger. 2ND : MILES & CULLEN’S NERADMIK GAME PLAN FOR LEKKERBEK, Another quality dog, good size and masculine general impression. Round eyes. 3RD : MATTHEWS’ POMMARY RUFF N’READY AT VALINDALE, short bodied compact dog, not in full coat at the moment and so the colour is not at its best. Moves a little close behind.
OPEN DOG – 8, 1AB. 1ST : WADMORE SMITH’S CH HUNNIVOLES WOODY VALENTINE JW, a quality dog, strong and masculine, short and compact body, excellent masculine head. CC, BOS. 2ND : WILKIN’S CH POMMARY QUICK SILVER AT WHIZZKEES, very nice topline, good bone, short and cobby, moves well, round eyes. res CC. 3RD : CARROLL’S IR CH LYNTOVA LEGEND HAS IT, Short and cobby. Excellent bone. Coat a little short to-day, could have a little more neck, round eyes.
VETERAN DOG – 2. 1ST : BENNETT & SAVAGE’S CH THORSDALE TRADE MARK, very well constructed dog, masculine and strong, compact body, moves well. 2ND : ROSE’S ROSSVALE SACRED SPIRIT TO ESORKEES, a little lighter in bone and longer cast, wide in front, somewhat weak at pasterns and moves wide in front.
SPECIAL VINTAGE DOG – 1. 1ST : BRUNT’S AM CH LASER’S TUXEDO JUNCTION OF ZANDVOORT (IMP), a quality dog, strong, short and compact, excellent topline, high set tail, good bone, well angulated, moves well, only thing which reveals his age is that the coat is a little thinned.
BREEDERS DOG – 1. 1ST : BRUNT’S CH ZANDVOORT DREAM MACHINE, a quality dog, nice lively character, could have a little heavier bone. Well angulated, moves very well, colour has a little brownish tone.
SPECIAL NOT BRED BY EXH DOG – 3, 2AB. 1ST : SHEPHERD’S KICHIGAI LORD OF THE DANCE
GOOD CITIZEN DOG SCHEME CLASS DOG – 1AB
MINOR PUPPY BITCH – 2, 1AB. 1ST : GREGORY’S AMIKIRS BUBBLELICIOUS, a lovely feminine puppy in good coat, well constructed, compact body, well angulated. Well carried tail, pretty face and nicely set ears. res CC, Best Puppy.
PUPPY BITCH – 4, 1AB. 1ST : BARDSLEY’S NERADMIK HIGH SOCIETY AT SKATHKI, a very pretty puppy, very well presented. Short, compact body, moves well. 2ND : ROSE’S NERADMIK TANZANITE FOR ESORKEES, just a little longer cast but also a very nice puppy. Well angulated, front movement needs to tighten. 3RD : RICHARDSON’S RICARA ROSE, rather small and still immature. Still needs to grow and develop, get more length of legs and the front movement needs to tighten. Nice dark eyes.
JUNIOR BITCH – 6. 1ST : BATTRAM’S VANSTRAND QUANTUM OF SOLACE, a lovely bitch, caught immediately my eye. Very pleasing and feminine in general impression, very well constructed and well balanced, beautiful topline, moves well, very well handled. CC and BOB. 2ND : TEW’S BARGEWAY NEAT AND TIDY Short and compact, pretty face, good bone. Just could be a little better angulated behind. 3RD : BRUNT’S BARGEWAY NEARLY AN ANGEL OF ZANDVOORT, short and compact. A little short muzzle. Good bone, The tail could be tighter curled.
I liked all three of them very much.
YEARLING BITCH – 2. 1ST : BATTRAM’S VANSTRAND QUANTUM OF SOLACE 2ND : PALMER’S SHELDERON SECRET SYMPHONY, good topline and tailset. Not in full coat, a little loose in front movement, the face mask could be darker.
NOVICE BITCH – 1AB
POST GRADUATE BITCH – 8, 2AB. 1ST : BATTRAM’S LEAZEHOND STARSHINE GALAXY FOR VANSTRAND, a strong bitch, moves very well, well angulated. Well filled muzzle, dark eyes. 2ND : PALMER’S SHELDERON SECRET SYMPHONY. 3RD : BURDON & PINKNEY’S BYQUY BECAUSE YOU KNOW, a smaller bitch, could have more lenght of legs. Well angulated, moves well. Coat on the back a little flat to-day.
LIMIT BITCH – 11, 4AB. 1ST : ESLAND’S CHOTAHKEES TICKETY BOO AT VALINDALE, strong, short coupled, carries too much weight. Well filled muzzle, good length of neck. Moves well, well angulated, good coat and colour. 2ND : WATSON’S POMMARY ELITE N’KLASSIC AT COLPATRON, good bone, very nice head. Coat a little short to-day, the tail could be tighter curled. 3RD : AUSTIN & JOHNSTON’S CHOTAHKEES ENCHANTRESS, rather big and slightly masculine in general impression but well constructed and strong. Short body, excellent bone.
OPEN BITCH – 9, 3AB. 1ST : AUSTIN’S CH VALINDALE DARLING GIRL FOR CHOTAHKEES JW ShCM, well balanced, although not the shortest, moves very well. Very nice head and expression. 2ND : CURRY’S CH NERADMIK STEPPIN’ UP THE GAME AT NORKEES JW, short coupled, strong, excellent bone, slightly masculine in general impression. Would like to see less weight and less hair. 3RD : CARROLL’S IR CH LYNTOVA MIDNIGHT DREAM, short and compact, very feminine. A little short muzzle, coat rather short to-day.
VETERAN BITCH – 2. 1ST : WALLER’S BRYKIN BANDORA, a little slim but very nice topline, well angulated and moves well. Could be shorter in body. Dark eyes, foxy face. A little close behind. 2ND : ATKINSON’S ALLFORUS DICE WITH ME AT WINKLESTAR, in good coat, well angulated. Carries too much weight and rather weak at pasterns and that makes her look somewhat short-legged. A little close behind. Well carried tail.
SPECIAL VINTAGE BITCH – 4, 2AB. Both of them quality bitches, still in excellent condition. 1ST : BROWN’S CH ROSSVALE STRIKE A POSE, moves incredibly well to her age. Well constructed, correct proportions. Just a little light in bone. 2ND : GATE’S KWAJONGEN WHAT KATIE DID AT VALINDALE Well constructed and correct proportions, but too much weight, which effects the movements. Teeth exceptionally strong and clean!
BREEDERS BITCH – 7, 4AB. 1ST : BATTRAM’S VANSTRAND QUANTUM OF SOLACE 2ND : PATTISON’S EASTKEES TIMELESS LOVE, too much weight. Good bone, well angulated, good tail carriage. Could have more length of legs. 3RD : CH CHOTAHKEES TRULY GORGEOUS, far too much weight and heavy in general impression. Rather heavy in head too, rather light and round eyes.
SPECIAL NOT BRED BY EXHIBITOR BITCH – 6, 3AB. 1ST : BARDSLEY’S NERADMIK HIGH SOCIETY AT SKATHKI . 2ND : BRUNT’S BARGEWAY NEARLY AN ANGEL OF ZANDVOORT . 3RD : HARDING’S AMIKIRS AMOUR, again, too much weight which effects the movement, rather short-legged.
