GOOD CITIZEN BITCH – NO ENTRIES

Before the beginning of my individual critiques I would like to make one or two general remarks about the breed. As many of you will know, I have been judging Keeshonds at this level for over twenty years – my first appointment with tickets was in 1989 – and since then I have judged them both here and abroad if not often reasonably regularly. I hope I do not offend you by saying that overall I was disap¬pointed for it is a breed I have always admired and loved. Of course the quality of breeds does move in cycles. My own breed is, I hope, currently coming out from a trough while Elkhounds, it appears to me, are at the top of their cycle. My main concern is that of size for far too many were not just small but well below what I consider to be the right size. I did not measure them but when you consider that dogs should be 17 inches at the shoulder I suspect that a good many were 16 inches and even below. In percentage terms this is quite a lot. Some coats were very good while others were wispy and lacking in substance and some were positively fluffy. Movement to left a lot to be desired with poor fronts and crabbing very common faults. It says a great deal that the Reserve Dog CC went to a Veteran and the Reserve Bitch CC went to a puppy. Both deserved their awards but one would have pre¬ferred them to have come from Limit or Open. That said my winners were of good quality and I was pleased with both line-ups for the tickets.
VD I Luckhurst’s Ch Gavimir Kestrel (Res DCC) A lovely example of the breed in terms of shape and coat, well angulated and with a good movement although hes head is a little too strong 2 WaIler’s Ch Brykin Bourree. A beautiful head but rather upright in shoulder and lacking soundness on the move.
MPD I Brunt’s Sueacres Iced Diamond. Lovely puppy with good clear markings and good expression. Very good coat and moved well. 2 Hopkins Helkeesen Regal Surfer. Good outline clear shading but crabbed on the move: 3 Thomas Sareveta Masquerade. Just a baby and still very much a puppy although with a sweet expression to match his baby coat.
PD I Wells Allforus Hubba Bubba Of Belanisiya. This is a lovely puppy, and a very good example of the breed even at this tender age. His coat is still to mature and his markings around the eyes are a little too light but he moved extremely well and shows immense promise. 2 Agar- Bate’s Helkeesen Still Surfin. Nice outline and a good head and expression but rather upright in shoulder. 3 Henman & Peterson’s Foxifayre Doctor Zhivago. Another nice dog but with her forehand angulation too restricted.
JD I King’s Eastkees Secrets And Lies. Despite what I said in my introduction this is one dog that was well up to size and unfortunately rather tied at elbow. 2 Wilkin’s Whizzkees Onyx Shadow. Moved well although a little too small and tail set rather too low. 3 Wilkin’s Whizzkees Onyx Sampson Very much like his brother and with a bite too close to level.
PGD I Wilkin’s Pommary Quick Silver. The dog is the correct size and with a good outline but rather too masculine and little upright in shoulder. 2 Luckhurst’s Gavimir Checkmate. A pretty dog perhaps a little too feminine but with a lovely head although with a very short stride. down to size in my view. 3 Battram’s Ednaaron Hawkweed. Rather too small but good head and expression although crabbed a little coming with its elbows tied.
LD Ist; Brunt’s Zandvoort Dream Machine (BOB & DCC). A dog of the right size and shape with a good coat, good movement although perhaps slightly wide coming. Nevertheless a very good example of the breed. 2 Feist & Peacey’s Neradmik Valentino. A dog with lightish shading and showing some weakness in its offside hock which told against it today. 3 Miles A11forus Frosting Over Lekkerbek JW Sh.CM. Lovely mover but too small and expression spoilt by a small rather round eye.
OD I Days Ch A1lforus Dice Master For Spitzcav JW Sh.CM Steps a little high on the move and with a slightly pinched expression. 2 Rose’s Rossvale Sacred Spirit For Esorkees. A dog of correct size but particularly dark shading; tended to side-wind. 3 Peck’s Valindale Genusfour Byquy Rather too long in back and with a very strong expression.
GCD I Hopkins Helkeesen Regal Surfer.
VB I Goddard’s Ch Swashway Drama Queen, Beautiful bitch with a lovely outline, moved very well and in contention for the Reserve ticket. 2 Stubbings Norkees Special Edition At Vandersee. Another nice one close up to I a little longer and with rather less coat. 3 Ch Allforus Magic N lce JW Sh.CM. The third of a good trio although she is definitely too long and without that sweet expression I am looking for.
MPB I Rose’s Neradmik Kisses And Giggles For Esorkees Pretty puppy although a little long at present. She is likely to be lovely when she matures 2 Brewer’s Helkeesen Surfin Honey. a nice little bitch, another that is too long and running particularly close behind.
PB I Hickson’s Kichigai Special Edition (Res BCC & Bp). This is a gorgeous bitch who I’m sure is likely to do very well in the future as she matures. She has a superb outline lovely shading – an excellent example of the breed. 2 Henman & Peterson’s Foxifayre Pretty Woman, she has a lovely eye and expression a real delight although her movement was not her fortune and her shading is somewhat muddy. 3 Brewer & Harrison’s Helkeesen Surfin Kokomo. Steps a little too tall and too long. I am afraid that her ears are a little too big and set too far back on the skull and she has a rather round eye which spoils her expression.
JB I Wilkin’s Whizzkeys Onyx Sapphire. Standing alone: she has a pretty head but her chest is rather shallow; she crabbed a little on the move and tail is set a little low.
PGB I Tew’s Calivale Some like It Hot At Bargeway. Lovely on the move and a beautiful expression although her tail set is a little low. 2 Luckhurst’s Gavimir Chantilly Lace, a very pretty well made bitch with a good outline but she is just too small for the breed. 3 Carter’s Amikirs Arabella, Expression perhaps a little masculine and rather too tall.
LB I Bell’s Allforus Xtra Special. A little too small I’m afraid but very pretty nevertheless and the best in this class. 2 Eggleston’s Ricara Italian Sweetheart, She has a lovely head and outline but she is too tall and too long. 3 Stubbings Vandersee Autumnal Mist. Another with a pretty head and expression but she is too long. crabs a little and is too loose in front.
OB I Gregory’s Ch Aimikirs Adorabubble JW, (BCC). Fabulous bitch and very difficult to fault, lovely outline good coat moved well very short coupled a real contender for BOB. 2 Sharp Bale’s Neradmik Endless Love. Beautiful type close-up to one but just a little short on the leg. 3 Tew’s Aust Ch Calivale 0 Do It Again For Bargeway, a little long and tending to stand over herself but nevertheless she moved extremely well. Three very good examples of the breed.
