Judge: Brian Curry

Thank you to the committee of this show for their invitation to judge. It has always been one of my most favourite shows and I believe that I have only missed two in the last thirty four years. The show is set in the Springwood Park in Kelso, perhaps one of the most beautiful of venues, and traditionally is blessed with gorgeous weather, this year was no exception and it was a beautiful day, bright sun, dry, although thankfully not too hot for the dogs. Everything that a summer dog show should be.

I was very pleased with my entry. Type is still as varied as ever but I have to say that I was especially pleased with my dog and bitch CC and Reserve CC winners. For me they really stood away from the rest of the exhibits. Unfortunately, some were dropping their coat, but that is to be expected at this time of year

Puppy Dog: (1, 0 absentees): 1 Leadbetter’s Pommary Ashu Lodale. Seven months old, nice head and expression, although would prefer a darker eye. Good bone and moved ok. A little heavy coated.

Junior Dog: (3, 0 absentees): 1 Bloomfield’s Valindale What Ever. Nice upstanding dog particularly liked his head and expression, good eye shape and well placed ears. Good overall outline with a clean neck and shoulders, pleasing coat colour, markings and coat texture, and a well set tail. Moved and showed very well. 2 Pattinson’s Eastkees Licence to Love. Another lovely dog although of a very different type. Well proportioned body and lovely bone for size, good tail set. Dark eye and neat ears, but for me would like to see a clearer colour and markings. 3 Rose’s Valindale What Do You Think About Lacetrom.

Novice Dog: No entries

Post Graduate Dog: (3, 1 absentee): 1 Diver’s Allforus Roll Of The Dice At Murmansk. Smaller dog but of a nice type. Pleasing head and expression, good neck and shoulders, well placed tail, and beautifully clear colour and markings. Moved well and never stopped showing.2 Barton’s Rossvale Spirit Of The Night At Collchrist. Another nice dog with many similar attributes to the first in the class. Nice body and lovely colour and markings, very good bone and moved well. Just preferred the head type of one.

Limit Dog: (5, 1 absentee) 1 Bennet & Savage’s Thorsdale Trade Mark. Lovely dog, very attractive head and expression, good spectacles and neat ears. Lovely outline with a good neck and shoulders, well placed tightly curled tail, excellent body with a good spring of rib and lovely bone and feet. Good colour and markings although coat on the blow. Moved very well. Reserve Dog Challenge Certificate.2 Peck’s Valindale Fixed Assets For Byquy. Another nice dog, well constructed with lovely bone, good neck and shoulders, well set tail, nice colour and markings. Pushed the first in class hard, but preferred the head type of the winner. 3 Rose’s Rossvale Sacred Spirit To Esorkees. 4 Day’s Allforus Dice Master For Spitzcav JW ShCM.

Open Dog: (6, 2 absentees) A lovely class with one or two exhibits that I had previously liked from the ringside just not looking or giving their best on the day. 1 Ch Neradmik Take A Chance. This is a dog who really takes your eye in the ring; he cannot be ignored, as he has so much ring presence. Superb construction with a lovely spring of rib, elegant neck and shoulders, compact body, excellent bone and feet and the highest of tail sets. Lovely straight front, stood foursquare at all times, lovely to go over. Very appealing head with beautiful eye shape, placement and colour, very well defined spectacles all set of by a lovely dark muzzle. Nice ear shape although would prefer them a fraction higher set. The whole picture was topped off by a clean new coat coming through of a lovely colour with a harsh texture and well defined markings. Moved and shown to perfection, Dog Challenge Certificate and Best of Breed. 2 Pattison’s Eastkees One More Chance. Another nice dog with an attractive head and expression, good dark eye and well placed ears. Lovely body to go over, good bone and well placed tail. Moved very well both ways. For me would like a little more colour and definition of markings. 3 Hickson’s Kichigai Great Pretender JW ShCM. 4 Austin’s Chotakees What A Dream.

Puppy Bitch: (2, 1 absentee) 1 Hickson’s Kichigai Midnight Kisses. Seven months old but all of the essentials are there. Gorgeous head and expression with a lovely eye and good ear set, running into an excellent neck and shoulders, good body and nicely set tail with a good curl to it. Moved well, stood foursquare and showed like a little veteran. Stood alone but would be an easy winner in many circumstances. Pest Puppy in Breed.

Junior Bitch: (2, 0 absentees) Pattison’s 1 Eastkees Diamond Image. Lovely bitch, very sweet head, good eye shape. Good body, bone and neat feet, well set tail. Moved beautifully in all directions and really pulls herself together when standing, very alert and attentive. Colour could be a touch clearer, but she certainly has all of the markings as required. 2 Austin’s Valindale Darling Girl For Chotakees. Another attractive bitch with a nice head although eye could be a little darker. Good overall shape, nice neck and shoulders. Good colour and markings, not as positive on the move as the first in this class.

Novice Bitch: (1, 0 absentees) Burgess’s Reesburg Rockrose. Very appealing bitch that unfortunately would not show of her many virtues. Nice ‘close fitting’ coat of the most beautiful colour and harshest of textures. Very feminine head with well set ears. Well placed dark eye of a lovely shape. Sadly did not want to move on the day.

Post Graduate Bitch: (1, 1 absentee)

Limit Bitch: (4, 2 absentees) 1 Bell’s Allforus Tumbling Dice. Cracking little bitch with a lot of ring presence, attractive head and expression with a lovely dark eye, good ear set. Short back, good reach of neck and high tail set, enough bone for size. Good colour and markings although coat showing signs of starting to blow. Moved very well both coming and going very, feminine lady. Pushed the CC winner very hard. Reserve Challenge Certificate on the day. 2 Queen’s Martellkees Bermuda Rose. Another pleasing bitch, nice head, very strong colour and well defined markings. Good overall shape with a good tail placement. Moved in a straight line but unfortunately threw her front around a little on the move.

Open Bitch: (6, 1 absentee) 1 Brown’s Ch Rossvale Gone With The Wind. Have judged this bitch before when I admired her confirmation but did not think on that occasion she looked her best. Today she looked superb and I could not take my eyes off her. Lovely head and expression, dark correctly shaped eye and neat well set ears. Correct outline due to her short back, good neck and shoulders and very high set tail with a correct curl. Good spring of rib, good bone and very neat feet. Lovely construction, stood squarely at all times. Excellent coat colour, markings and definition, moved truly in all directions. Bitch Challenge Certificate. 2 Sharp-Bale’s Sturtmoor Crazy For Neradmik. Dam of the Best of Breed and it’s so easy to see where he gets a lot of his quality from. Excellent bitch to go over. Nice size with a superb outline, very good reach of neck, excellent shoulder placement, short back and extremely high tail set. Pleasing head with good eye shape and placement. Nice tight fitting jacket of a good texture. Unfortunately not the coat colour and markings of the winner on the day. Moved very well. 3 Gregory’s Neradmik J’Adore Amikirs. 4 Brewer’s Helkeesen Eventfull. 5 Leadbetter’s Leazehond Green Wave At Veltuds
