Keeshond Judge Colin Barton Collcrist.

My thanks to the Committee of Border Union for the invitation. Thanks also to the exhibitors for such a bumper entry. While the weather was glorious with wall to wall sunshine, even the breeze did not keep all of the dogs on their toes, some suffered more than others and were lethargic, without the bounce and sparkle to be expected of a Keeshond. Weight is still a problem, thankfully of a lower percentage than at my last appointment, with quite a few carrying excessive pounds and lacking muscle tone. I took great care to get through to the body, especially with the heavier coated ones to try and make accurate assessments. If you must give in to those appealing eyes, please try longer walks and check more often on the scales. Once again some need more ring training as nice examples lost points due to a poor show performance. I did not overly penalise coats in classes, as they come and go, as long as the outline was balanced and correct. Some exhibits also a little light in lower jaw even allowing for overall size variations. The following critique highlights the main points, it is not a full resume so even if not mentioned doesn’t mean it is not correct.

PD 3 (2) 1st Brunt’s – Zandvoort Mr Bond At 9 ½ months in good coat, yesterday’s bath has softened it slightly. Dark eyes with good ear placement, good spring of rib, short coupled, did not move with drive, some road work would tighten him up. 2 (1) Shepherd’s – Lyntova I Am Legend (IKC) Heavy coated dog well marked with nice dark eye and pleasing expression, a little narrow in front but of good size.
ND 0 (0)
PGD 7 (0) 1st Miles & Dean’s – Neradmik Kiss Chase With Lekkerbeck Profuse coat in good condition, well marked with good definition, dark muzzle of correct proportions, dark eye. Good spring of rib short coupled with a waist and tuck up. Double curl on tail. Moved well fore and aft. Considered in challenge but prefer his mum & dad.  2nd Shepherd’s – Kichigai Lord Of the Dance ShCM Correct outline and nice balance. Good coat, correctly marked, well set on ears with tight tail carriage. Good cat shaped feet. Did not have the drive of 1. 3rd Brunt’s – Zandzoort Purrsonal Life (AI)
LD 1 (0)1st Hickson’s – Kichigai’s Only The Lonley 2 year old typical male, Harsh coat of good colour, well set erect ears used to good effect, very alert. Correct size with good proportions, very fidgety and unsettled when moving, possibly the change of handler.
OD 4 (1) 1st DCC Harris’s, Ch Neradmik All About The Boy for Watchkees ShCM JW Last time I judged gave him RCC from PG, He has improved again, a correct sized dog under a large coat of good colour and definition, well proportioned masculine head with good stop, solid construction with good muscle tone, nice spring of rib, with a waist and tuck up. sound front and rear, moved with drive, obviously gets correct exercise and feed. 2nd RDCC Miles & Dean’s – Neradmik Family Affair with Lekkerbek. Good harsh coat clean and well presented, slightly larger dog. Pleasing masculine head Moved well, very alert, good colour, dark eye, pleasing masculine expression, good spring of rib 3rd Rose’s – Ch Rossvale Master Of Destiny For Esorkees.
VD 3 (3)

PB 4 (1) 1st BP Palmer’s – Shelderon’s Super Steller 11 month old, very feminine with sweet expression, harsh shorter coat, good ear placement and tail set, good lay of shoulders, well constructed front and rear. Moved well. 2nd Brunt’s – Zandvoort Ursula Andress 9 ½ months, good reach of neck, well proportioned head, very laid back approach to showing today possibly feeling the heat more than others. 3rd Bowden-Roche & Bowden’s Bargeway Virtual Angel
JB 1 (0) 1st Sharp-Bale’s – Neradmik Grace Kelly Fresh out of puppy, this young lady will go far, excellent coat, good size and substance, correct proportions to head, nice dark eye, very feminine already. Well presented and handled as you expect from this kennel.
NB 3 (1) 1st Kerr’s – Caraspitz Good Luck Charm Nicely marked, dark eye with good shape, correct size with good topline, well constructed, very fit this showed in her movement. 2nd Atherton’s Shelderon Smokey Sapphire At only her second show, she seemed overawed in the ring, difficult to examine, but a sound typical bitch, good bite and head, unsettled on the move, but did get it together long enough to see correct brisk movement.
PGB 5 (1) 1st Brunt’s – Waatan Gleditsia (Imp Fin) A little strong in muzzle but still feminine, good markings, good lay of shoulder and nice tuck in, well presented with tight cat feet. 2nd Gate’s – Lacetrom Shuna Very feminine, nice coat and definition, would prefer a little harsher, good bite and head, moved soundly but today did not have the drive of 1. 3rd Grahamslaw’s – Shelderon Secret Seranade
LB 2 (0) 1st Hickson’s – Kichigai Magic Dancer Nicely mature for 17m, fabulous harsh coat well marked, correct size, quality head in correct proportions. Should have an interesting future. 2nd Palmer’s – Shelderon Summer Sparkle Lacking a little definition today, but possibly changing coats, good size quality bitch. Moved well fore and aft but lacking a little drive today.
OB 5 (1) 1st BOB, BCC, Sharp-Bale’s – Ch Miss Holly Berry A worthy Ch. Last time I judged her she only lacked animation, today she had it in spades, really on her toes every inch a showgirl, this also got her shortlisted in a quality Utility group. Expertly prepared and handled, excellent proportions, harsh clean coat with definition. Excellent feminine head with pleasing expression, everything correct and in the right amount. At 6 years in her prime. 2nd RBCC, Gregory’s – Ch Amikirs Fabulicious Time J.W. Another worthy Ch. Nice outline, good coat correct texture, well marked, feminine head good proportions, nice spring of rib and tuck up, moved well but today did not sparkle. 3rd Austin’s – Chotahkees Don’t Stop me Now
VB 2 (0) Someone should tell both of these girls they are veterans, they neither looked or acted like it. They went round the ring at a spanking pace and moved with more vigour than most of the younger exhibits.
1st BV Diver’s – Ir Ch Kichigai Rare Edition at Murmansk Jun Ch Cw 11,12 Cjw 11 Well coated good sized quality bitch, pleasing feminine head good lay of shoulders with a waist and tuck up, good muscle tone, another who receives correct feed and exercise. Her movement and drive belie her 7 ½ years. 2nd Gate’s – Lacetrom Cruivie Sh Cm Slightly larger than 1, again a quality bitch who is not for slowing down. Harsh coat with good reach of neck, correct proportions, slightly down on front pasterns. Again moved true and with verve. Another well exercised well cared for girl.
