Grommit greets one and all

Keeshonds

I have always had a great interest in the Keeshond. It stems from my primary school days as every morning as I walked to school our local solicitor had two Keeshonds that, typical of Spitz, barked as we passed their residential gates. I was influenced also by the fact a number of great Keeshond kennels all lived within my local vicinity. Mary Smyth, Audrey Woodiwiss and, of course, Mrs Tucker. My interest spans more than 50 plus years. They are a fabulous Spitz dog & a great family dog & so to be asked to judge them at Crufts was a most enjoyable honour.

VD (10,2a) 1 Lythgoe’s Ch Stratus Midnight Legend, a grand veteran this, in lovely condition, compact, had a fabulous head & expression & was great on the move, one has to commend the preparation; 2 Carroll’s Ch/Int Ch Rodina Midnight Legend, in lovely coat & condition, has a good head with typical eye, good ears & I loved the neat feet; 3 Lythgoe’s Ch Stratus Eastern Knight.
PD (4) 1 Eggleston’s Eastkees Jack Of Diamonds for Ricara, lovely type of Keeshond this, was particularly attracted to the style & good presentation, he showed well & demonstrated his masculinity, one that I am sure will do well in the future; 2 Pattison’s Eastkees Licence To Love, I really liked the head, nice eye, nice earset & very attractive colouring & coat, again good, neat feet; 3 Dulon’s Flatmeer Flickerring.
JD (2) 1 Peck’s Valindale Fixed Assets for Byquy, in full coat & full bloom, excellent type & super in coat texture, great on the move & that is what won him this class; 2 Brewer’s Helkeesen Adam, a little less mature than 1 but nevertheless one that has great presence. Super coat of correct texture & going with a typical movement expected of this breed.
PGD (11,1a) 1 Craig’s Flatmeer Flonkerlicht, one that appealed to me. Much darker dog but equally acceptable, great Spitz head, good presence, excellent presentation & showed consistently; 2 Newman’s Leazehond Edmundson, lovely type of Keeshond, great coat & texture, good legs & feet. A little loose in action; 3 Hill’s Plymkees First Edition.
LD (9) 1 Bennett & Savage’s Thorsdale Trade Mark, one I very much liked the look of, loved the type, great head & expression, nice eye, good ears, lovely typical Keeshond colouring, good legs & feet, a joy to see in movement; 2 Lythgoe’s Stratus Majic Moment, another that I liked very much, particularly the head & expression, compact right through & displaying many typical characteristics of the breed; 3 Luckhurst’s Gavimir Grand Marnier.
OD (12,1) 1 Brunt’s Am Ch Laser’s Tuxedo Junction of Zandvoort, what a super animal this is. For me he typifies the breed. On top form, great expression, super eye & ear set, presented in lovely condition, I loved his animation, jaunty & happy & certainly one that I would be happy to own. CC; 2 Sharp-Bale’s Ch Neradmik D’Artagnan, lovely type, overall quality was superb, he could easily have changed places with 1. Presentation was impeccable, his showmanship outstanding. One I would have loved to have owned. RCC; 3 Matthews’ Ch/Aus Ch Calivale What The Valindale.
GCD (1) 1 Barton’s Rossvale Spirit Of The Night at Collcrist.

VB (6,1) 1 Brewer’s Neradmik Risky Rumour at Helkeesen, great emphasis has to be placed in the veteran class on the condition of the animal. In this case the bitch was in superb condition for her age, lovely type, typical Spitzy head & moved superbly; 2 Bell’s Ch Allforus Magic N Ice, lovely type, compact, excellent in movement & a great coat with the right sort of texture. One to be commended on her condition; 3 Brunt’s Ch Zandvoort Dream Come True.
PB (5) 1 Luckhurst’s Gavimir English Rose, lovely type, nice colour, great head & expression, loved the coat & overall quality, presentation delightful; 2 Henman & Peterson’s Eastkees Dare To Dream of Foxifayre, presents herself well, a great showgirl, feminine, great coat, good feet & well presented; 3 Pattison’s Eastkees Diamond Image.
JB (6,1) 1 Stubbings’ Vandersee Autumnal Mist, very pretty bitch, nice eye, good in front, good angulation & good on the move; 2 Passmore’s Torrikees With Attitude, showed so well, never put a foot wrong so far as presenting herself, good head, great overall balance & one that in my view has a great future; 3 Searle’s Brykin Beulieu at Heemstede.
PGB (8,1) 1 Newman’s Leazehond Maddy Moonlight, liked this one a lot, excellent in movement & her movement so typical of the breed, presentation super, excellent type of Keeshond for me; 2 Truelove & Sharp-Bale’s Neradmik Baiodora Lady D’Winter, should be commended on her showmanship as well as super presentation, excellent in profile, liked her head & expression, definitely shows off her femininity; 3 Wyeth’s Liefkees Dawn Chorus.
LB (10) 1 Ring’s Baleissa Posh Totty, what a lovely type this is. I have to remark on her femininity. Lovely head & expression, great coat & texture, certainly put all in so far as movement was concerned; 2 Wadmore-Smith’s Rossvale The Look Of Love, my first comment in my notes is that of her movement. She went well, went superbly, great presentation. I loved the coat & colour & general overall balance; 3 Hickson’s Neradmik Scandalous at Natlou.
OB (17) As a general comment this was not an easy class to judge. My first three placings were superb. I have to say I could have taken any one of these three bitches home but I absolutely adored my first place girl. 1 Saarilahti & Vatanen’s Ikurin Regina Nova, she has everything that is required of this breed. Presented superbly, moved like a dream & it would be difficult for any specialist to levy any form of criticism. Well deserved CC & BOB; 2 Sharp-Bale’s Sturtmoor Crazy for Neradmik, what can I say? The quality was outstanding, presentation outstanding, everything about her is Spitzy & Keeshond. She delighted me immensely; 3 Brown’s Ch Rossvale Gone With The Wind.
GCB (3,1) 1 Marfleet’s Flatmeer Fleurig; 2 Saunders’ Liefkees Adelina.
