CRUFTS CH. SHOW MARCH 2014 KEESHONDS
Veteran D. (3): 1, Hill’s Plymkees Star Class ChCM 8 yrs, fairly compact dog, good markings, vg head, masculine expression, dark eyes, neat ears not too tall and well used,vg front but pasterns could be stronger, excellent coat texture, tail set, moved out briskly and true; 2, Brunt’s Am Ch. Laser’s Tuxedo Junction of Zandvoort 11 yrs old, another compact dog, whose eye shape and set detracted from expression, good bone down to neat catlike feet, vg coat texture, colour not as clearly defined as class winner, high set tail, very attentive, not as fluent on the move; 3, Miles’ Allforus Frosting over Lekkerbek,9 yrs old, another one with very dark eyes, but shape is too round, good overall muzzle to skull proportions, good front, good coat texture, preferred gait of those above him.
Spec. Puppy D (5): 1 Miles & Dean’s Neradmik Family Affair with Lekkerbek Best Puppy Dog,12 months, clear winner on his overall balance, shape, size, proportions, with desired outline, excellent expression, lovely dark eyes but would like them a tad more oblique set, fairly neat ears well set and used, VG conformation, good spring of rib, short compact, strong body, high set tail, well demarcated coat colour, moves well when his brain is on the job; 2, Atkinson’s Winklestar Hadar12 months, good dog but not the body development just yet, is somewhat narrow in the front and needs to strengthen in front pasterns, another one with dark eyes, but somewhat close together, ears a shade too tall, so expression is affected, has excellent harsh texture coat and moved soundly; 3, Baker’s Neradmik Boy Next Door another one 12 months old as well, good dog, but divergent ears and eye shape affect expression. Has a good front on him, good body development for his age, fairly harsh textured coat, lovely high set tail, moved fairly well.
Spec. Junior D (1): 1, Miles, Cullen’s Rossvales Legacy for Lekkerbek,13 months, dark eyes, medium sized dog, well presented compact outline, but shoulder placement affects front construction and neck length, he is well angled in rear quarters, has an excellent tail set and carriage, coat texture is harsh and moves out briskly.
Post Grad D (12,2): I found this class very difficult, and not a good indicator for the breed’s onward development. Movement front and rear was very poor, and far too many dogs had soft coat texture; the desired eye shape and set was virtually absent. 1, Eggleston’s Bert Von Ricara, 2yrs medium sized dog with dark eyes, good overall proportions of muzzle and skull, fairly neat ears, good front and rear construction, coat colour is clearly marked, good tail set, best rear and side gait in the class, but needs to tighten in front; 2, Waller’s Brykin Big Chief 2 ½ good balance of head proportions, dark eyes, okay front, alert attentive dog, harsh texture, excellent tail set, erratic movement; 3, Wilkin’s Whizzkees Onxy Sampson 4 ½ mature dog with good coat texture but clarity of colour demarcations/markings at present is a shade faded. Another one with lovely dark eye colour, good head proportions, another erratic on the move, sometimes good in front other times so in the rear but never together, a shame.
Limit D (10,1): Another class with very mixed quality, soft coats, head patterns not to my liking and movement left much to be desired.1, Tew’s Bargeway Keen to Rumble almost 3 years old, this dog stood far and away from the rest of the class for the best Keeshond head and expression. There is the marked stop but the length of muzzle balances the length of flat skull to give the correct proportions. To make it even more noticeable, this dog also has the correct eye shape and set on as well. Very good conformation, would like coat texture a bit more harsh, movement a joy to see, provides a very balanced overall picture and would think he will be knocking on the door of the big green card very soon, just needs a bit more use of ears; 2, Peck, Matthews &Stewart’s Klompen’s Who’s Your Daddy (imp Can) 21 months, not long out of junior, ultra compact dog, very nice to go over with correct layback of shoulder, clean neck, very good matching angles fore and aft. His head pattern for me is a tad too short in muzzle with a very deep stop, so the balance is not quite there. His dark eyes need a bit more fill under them to enhance the expression. Coat is vg but think it is getting ready to turn, so colour perhaps not as clearly defined and marked as on other days. Excellent movement coming and going, presenting an alert and lively picture; 3, Miles & Cullen’s Neradmik Game Plan for Lekkerbek 2 yrs, good sized male presents vg overall picture, with enough neck. His eye shape and set on could be better as well as ear set and size. Good conformation overall, excellent coat texture, tail set,
Open D (17,2): Quite a strong class, which is as it should be, the overwhelming majority of them I have never seen before, so it was interesting to read the results at the end of the day. All of the 5 placed dogs and several others unplaced I would rate excellent with just fine details separating them. My major concerns in this class have to be eye shape and colour. Far too many dogs had eyes so round and bold that the whites could be seen around them, not a look that I feel is correct for this breed. The other major concern is the amount of coat. Several dogs, in my opinion have too much, so that the dog’s balance, proportions, neck, forehand, etc. are lost in this profusion of long coat all over. More coat does not equal better.1, Miettinen& Keinanen’s Int/FI/Ru/Lv/By Ch. Ikurin Stella Polaris, 6 yrs, lovely dog took my eye in looking over the line up at the start of the class and didn’t disappoint upon examination. Beautiful and desired Keeshond head and expression, lovely conformation, his overall balance is what strikes you when looking at his outline, and not over-coated as some were today. Excellent body shape, coat colour and texture. Dog CC. In the final challenge, I just preferred the side gait of the bitch CC winner, as she was a tad more collected and balanced, both were very sound coming and going.; 2, Blankenship’s GrCH/Am Ch. Trumpet’s It’s Good to be King (ATC USA),6 yrs, attractive head, dark eyes, would like a shade more length of muzzle to balance skull, very good conformation, clean neck of good length, excellent gait, coat colour clearly demarcated, scores in body development and balance, excellent front, neat feet, tail set, very close up to winner, so RCC; 3, Atkinson’s Torrikees Who’s the Boss of Winklestar, also 6yrs old, another excellent dog but his eye shape and colour detracts from expression. VG conformation, harsh textured coat but it is in the process of changing, so colour affected a bit, otherwise an excellent example with correct gait.
Good Citizen D (1): 1, Hopkins Fr. Ch. Helkeesen Regal Surfer Among Serenaubach Jw ShCM, 4 yr old, attractive outline, lacks body and spring of rib. VG overall head and expression, VG conformation, high set tail, correct harness markings, but coat colour not as clear as one would like.
Veteran B (7,1): 1, Wadmore-Smith’s Ch. Rossvale The Look of Love JW, 8 yrs old, I found this bitch most typical for overall shape, size and proportions. VG construction, eyes are dark but could be more almond shaped. Excellent body, movement, vg tail set, clear demarcation and harness markings in coat with neat feet; 2, Newman’s Leazehond Maddy Moonlight’,7 yrs,I preferred, to be honest, the head and expression of this bitch with her balanced length of muzzle to skull, ear size and set on. Her coat texture was excellent, but her rear gait really disappointed. 3, Hill’s Plymkees Limited Edition ShCM, 8 yrs old, Overall a pleasing bitch but would like a tad more strength of muzzle to balance the rest of her head. Good body, coat texture, vg tail set, moved well.
Spec. Puppy B (7): 1, Wogan’s Neradmik Uptown girl Deminiac 12 months, lovely outline, really eye catching bitch, who does not disappoint when examining her. Correctly proportioned body, excellent development with strong short loin, lovely head and expression with dark eyes, ears and muzzle, a bit upright in shoulder, but has vg tail set, excellent coat texture and colour with excellent brisk and true gait. RCC; Best Puppy Bitch and Best Puppy in Breed. I will look forward to seeing how she develops in the near future, one for the upper house, I think; 2, Gregory Amikirs Bubblelicious 12 months, another nice bitch, vg dark eyes, feminine expression, good body development, coat texture is changing right now, good tail set, moved somewhat erratic in that she would move better in one direction but not the other; 3, Bardsley’s Neradmik High Society at Skathiki, 12 months, good head and expression, mature body and spring of rib, very mature and heavily coated, dark eyes, ears well placed and used. Would like a bit more length of neck to give balance to the outline, excellent tail set, also erratic on the move.
Spec. Jun B (3,2): 1, Richardson’s Ricara Rose, attractive feminine bitch with dark eyes and good colouration of muzzle and ears, giving a very typical expression. She has a compact body, well sprung ribs,vg tail set, good back end, but not as good in front.
PG B (10,3): 1, White’s Neradmik Meant to be with Whitchakees,2 yrs, took my eye as she came into the ring, is an extremely naughty girl, a real handful, but is a bold, lively and alert bitch, stands foursquare and is lovely to go over for conformation. One of the very few in this class with not only a good layback of shoulder but also length of neck. She has dark eyes, well used and placed ears, vg coat texture, but is a real handful on the move, needs to be steadied to improve her chances further; 2, Fitches’ Venway Believe in Magic at Samoykees (Nld imp); almost 2 yrs; 3, Burdon & Pinkney’s Byquy Because You Know almost 3 yrs. Both of these two bitches are very much out of coat, but both with VG construction and body. Today the coat colour was clearer on #2 and I preferred some aspects of head on #2 over the third, but close up No doubt these two will change places on another day.
Limit B (13,2):A good class, only small details separating some of the places. Quite a few, however, were very upright in shoulder layback and some short in rib and were long in couplings, not an aspect I associate with this breed. 1, Reed’s Byquy Wilma,21 months, very good example of the breed, having dark eyes, vg ear seat, vg to go over for conformation, clean neck, good front, neat feet, good bone, excellent tail set, moved out briskly and true; 2, White’s Neradmik Sunday Lovin Morvania, 2 ½ yr, another vg bitch, but her ear set is a shade divergent, so it affects expression. OK front but could do with a tad more neck length, would like her a bit more compact in body, vg coat texture, excellent tail, VG front and rear movement, balanced side gait; Hickson’s Kichigai Ups a Daisy ShCM 2 yr, I liked bitch very much but for me could do with a bit more size, as her balance was not as good as those above her in the class. Otherwise, she is lovely to go over for conformation with clean shoulders, head is good, but think a tad more length of muzzle would balance overall look.
Open B (9,2): Another excellent open class, as it should be. 1, Sharp-Bale’s Ch. Neradmik Miss Holly Berry, 2 yr bitch with lovely size, shape, balance, excellent conformation, clean neck, good strong bone right down to her tight neat feet. She has an excellent head and expression, excellent body, short coupled, strong loin, level topline, excellent tail and coat texture, and foot perfect movement. Bitch CC/Best of Breed and Group 3; 2, Carroll’s Ir. Ch. Lyntova Midnight Dream 2 ½ another excellent bitch, lovely conformation again, feminine head and expression, shade too deep in stop for me, and would like a harsher texture of coat, but otherwise excellent; 3, Curry’s Ch. Neradmik Steppin’ Up the Game at Norkees JW 2 yrs, another excellent bitch, not quite as compact as class winners. She has a vg head and expression with dark eyes and neat ears, vg balance of length of muzzle to skull, vg body development, moved very well.
Good Citizen B (2): Two very different types of Keeshond, but for me the class winner more closely fulfilled the requirements of the breed standard’s temperament, being confident and alert. 1, Saunders’ Liefkees Annabell,3 yrs Class winner has overall vg head and expression, ears could be a shade better set,she has excellent coat texture, with clearly defined markings. She also has a strong body, good tail set, moved out well with excellent side gait.; 2, Hopkins Torrikees Shakira Among Serenaubach(B jr ch/ Ir Jr Ch.) 3 yrs nice bitch with a very good front on her, good to go over for overall construction, but would like a bit less coat, as its profusion disguises her body balance and shape. Under all that coat she does have a very good body shape and short couplings, vg tail set, vg rear gait.
