Leeds Championship Show July 2017
Thank you to everyone who entered, shame there were so many absentees on the day but this time of year coats play an important part and I understand why people elect to stay home. My thanks to my able steward, Tom, who got everyone organised. A large ring which enabled me to see the dogs on the move, and this was the downfall of some of the entries today. Many seemed very distracted and did not perform as I know they can but have to judge on the day. All entries were in good condition and not carrying too much weight. All had correct spectacle markings. Some lovely double curled tails too.
Puppy Dog (5 Entries) Abs: 2 1st: Matthews & Ransley’s Szaryk Dutch Bargemaster with Valindale – 9½ months super compact boy. Presents a lovely outline. Pleasing head with a defined stop, dark muzzle, well set ears and correct dentition. Eyes could be darker but for me did not detract from his alert expression. Good front assembly, with well-boned, straight forelegs and excellent feet. Well set tail and good strong hindquarters for his age. Has a good side gait and holds himself well on the move. Moving well to and fro. Coat of excellent colour and texture, beautifully presented. What a showman he is and is handled to good effect by his experienced owner. BP, RDCC and Puppy Group 4. Well done. 2nd: Evans’s Amikirs Rider Of The Storm At Canterwey – 7 ½ months baby looking a little raw but is promising. Up to size and for me I would not want much bigger. Colour needs to come through but what he has looks good and as he matures, this will come. Pleasing head, though a little reluctant to use his ears. Dark eye and correct dentition. Balanced proportions with a good front and neat feet. Moved well around the ring. Promising. 3rd: Senior’s Zandvoort View To A Kill
Junior Dog (2 Entries) Abs: 0 1st: King’s Allforus Terrific Turtle (Ai) – that terrible junior stage where they drop coat and grow some. 17 months, top sized dog of presenting a good outline. Pleasing head and expression, dark eye. For me his ears are a little wide set. Enough bone for size. Needs to widen in front slightly but as he matures I am sure this will come as when moving towards me he looks a little narrow at this stage. Moved steadily. His coat is a good colour and texture, presentation could be a little better but this will come with more experience. 2nd: Shepherd’s Lyntova I Am Legend (IKC) – another one whose mind was distinctly elsewhere today. His profuse coat spoils his shape and outline but underneath is a fit young dog. Masculine head with dark eyes and neat ears. Good bone and feet. Well proportioned body and well muscled hindquarters. High set tail. Well presented coat of good colour and markings. Moved reasonably well when he put his mind to it, though a little narrow behind.
Post Graduate Dog (4 Entries) Abs: 1 1st: Fusco’s Amikirs Lord Of The Bubbles – smart young dog, who is starting to come into his own. He has a lovely foxy head with dark eyes and correct ear set and spec. Good reach of neck into good shoulders and front. In full coat of lovely colour, which was well presented. Well sprung rib with correct hindquarters; moved well front and back with a brisk action. 2nd: Brunt’s Zandvoort Purrsonal Life (Ai) – another pleasing young dog with a pleasing head and good ear set. Dark eye but a little round. Could have a little more neck to balance his outline and slightly steep in upper arm. Very compact with good length of leg. Good topline, excellent tail set and good coat texture which was well presented. Moved well but not as positive in front as 1. 3rd: Shepherd’s Kichigai Lord Of The Dance Sh.Cm
Limit Dog (4 Entries) Abs: 1 1st: Davies’s Neradmik Over The Rainbow To Kyross – Well presented boy with a good head, with correct stop, dark eye, and well set ears. Not in the best of coats but of excellent colour and markings. His outline is good outline but looked a little long. Well boned legs and good feet, pasterns could be stronger. Sound enough on the move but didn’t seem to get into his stride and looked a little unbalanced going round. 2nd: Pattison’s Zandvoort Gettin’purrsonal For Eastkees (Ai) – smaller more compact dog. Good head with dark eyes, neat ears. Would prefer a slightly more length of muzzle to balance. Good size, short coupled dog. Darker coloured coat that is well marked and of a correct texture. Another who could do with a little more neck to balance the overall picture. Slightly steep in upper arm so not as positive in front as 1. Well set tail, good bone and feet. 3rd: Grahamslaw’s Shelderon Spirit Walker
Open Dog (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: Bennett’s Byquy Rich Gent – on his own but deserved his first place. Lovely dog of correct size. An excellent wedge shaped head with dark eyes. Good arch to neck and good shoulders. Well boned legs and cat feet. Compact outline with good topline and just right amount of weight. Moved briskly and positively. Unfortunately in the challenge lost his focus and despite his handler’s best efforts, he was not playing the game.
Veteran Dog (2 Entries) Abs: 0 1st: Brunt’s Ch Zandvoort Dream Machine – 9 years young and certainly showed the youngsters a thing or two. Lovely shape and size, excellently presented coat of good colour and markings. Correct wedge shaped head, dark eyes, ears were set OK. Very well placed shoulders, and best of fronts and feet. Good topline strong loin and high tail set. Neat feet, good bone and strong muscle tone. Moved very well and showed himself to advantage. Could not be denied the CC on the day as he put his heart and soul into his performance. A credit to his owner/breeder. CC, BV & BOB. Gave a good performance in both the Adult Group and Veteran Group. 2nd: Wilkes, Wilkes & Clarke’s Helkeesen Surfin For Dakaraikees – another excellent example of our breed and he was enjoying his day out. Good overall shape and coat of good colour and texture. Wedge shaped head with pleasing expression. Well conditioned body. Moved well.
Puppy Bitch (4 Entries) Abs: 2 1st: Wilkes Clarke & Peck’s Dakaraikees Silver Charm – feminine young girl who just needs to gather a shade more confidence but is clearly heading in the right direction and was sympathetically handled. Foxy head with a dark eye and pleasing alert expression. Good size and her overall shape appeals. Good colour and coat texture. Could carry her tail to better advantage but with more confidence, I am sure this will improve. Moved OK once settled. Needs time to come together, but is only young yet. 2nd: Brunt’s Zandvoort Ursula Andress – another young lady who also needs a shade more confidence to show herself off to advantage. Well proportioned head, with dark eyes. For me her ears could be a bit smaller but are well set and she has an alert expression. Good reach of neck and shoulders OK. Fair front and good feet. Coat of good colour and texture. Carried her tail slightly low but I think this is more a confidence issue rather than a low set.
Junior Bitch (3 Entries) Abs: 2 1st: Palmer’s Shelderon Super Steller – first time in Junior, this young lady really caught my eye. Totally focused on her handler and putting everything she could into her performance. Excellent shape and size, pretty head with dark, almond shaped eyes and alert expression. Good reach of neck into well laid shoulders, straight front and good feet. Presents a good shape overall and her high set tail balances the picture. Her well fitted coat is of a good colour and well defined markings. Moved well around the ring and also to and fro. Pleased to award her the RCC.
Post Graduate Bitch (6 Entries) Abs: 3 1st: Hickson & Hickson’s Kichigai’s Lilac Wine – lively young lady who was enjoying her day out! Just starting to lose her coat but still is of good colour and well defined markings. Not a big girl but she is balanced throughout. Pretty head with a dark eye and enough stop. Compact body and good tail set. Well presented coat. She moved well around the ring. 2nd: Pattison’s Lyntova Midnight Angel With Eastkees – not the biggest of bitches but I do like her. Not in full coat today but there was enough to see the markings and feel the texture. Pretty head, with a lovely dark eye. Would like a little more length of muzzle just to balance her head ratios. Good bone for her size, short compact body and high set tail. Moved well. 3rd: Kerr’s Caraspitz Good Luck Charm
Limit Bitch (4 Entries) Abs: 2 1st: Hickson & Hickson’s Kichigai Magic Dancer JW – Good sized bitch who is so feminine Her head is well proportioned with small well set ears and dark almond shaped eyes. Alert expression. Good reach of neck and front is good, with neat feet. Well ribbed and compact body. She has a lovely texture to her coat with good colour and markings. Tail is set lovely and high over her back with a good plume. Well muscled and this showed in her brisk movement around the ring. Well presented and handled, was delighted to award her the BCC. Hope her third is not too far away. 2nd: Palmer ‘s Shelderon Summer Sparkle – larger bitch than 1 but balanced and has a good shape. Good head proportions giving that desired foxy head. Well presented coat of good colour and definition. Well carried high set tail. Moved well around the ring and to and fro.
Open Bitch (5 Entries) Abs: 3 1st: Mckean’s Kichigai This Girl Is Mine At Yawren – not a big girl but so well balanced in shape and outline. Very in tune with her handler. Pretty head with a dark eye and well set ears. Good reach of neck and shoulders, short compact body in good condition. High set well carried tail. Just coming back into coat which is well presented and good texture. Just needs to grow some more trousers to complete the picture. 2nd: Gregory’s Ch Amikirs Fabulicious Time JW – Larger girl than 1 but presents a well balanced outline. Pretty head of good proportions, enhanced by a dark eye, well set ears, when she decided to use them. Arched neck into good shoulders and front, with neat feet. Good spring of rib and well proportioned body with a high set, well plumed tail. Harsh coat of good texture. Moved well but was just not giving her all today, despite her handlers very best efforts.
