The North of England Keeshond Club Open Show
Sunday 15th July 2007
Judge: Mrs Jane Ring (Baleissa)
I would like to thank the committee for asking me to judge this show. It was a great honour to do so and I thoroughly enjoyed my day and received a very warm Northern welcome by you all.
Overall I thought the quality of the dogs good although I felt many of them were let down by a lack of preparation for the show. I found grooming a real issue. There were a few exceptions but I felt many of the dogs could have benefited from a brush that got down to their undercoat not just the top layer! It can make such a difference to the overall outline of the dog and helps to finish the complete picture.
Overall I felt the standard of bitches was higher than that of the dogs and there were a few classes which really made my decision difficult (In a good way of course!)
Minor Puppy Dog – 1 Entry, 1 Absent
Puppy Dog – 3 Entries – 0 Absent
1/ Hicksons’ Kichigai Alexandrite – Good overall shape and well muscled up for one so young. Nice masculine head and a pleasing expression. Nice dark eye with well placed ears. Good neck and shoulder. Colour more of a silver grey but clear markings. Nice feet and bone. Tail set ok but had a tendency to drop it on occasions. Moved well from the rear but a little lose from the front. Best Puppy Dog
2/ Brunts’ Zandvoort Dreamboat – Did not show the enthusiasm of 1. Colour I felt was not as good as 1. Nice head with a lovely dark eye. Well placed ears when he used them. High set tail. Moved ok.
3/ Brewers’ Helkeesen Adam
Junior Dog – 2 Entries – 0 Absent
1/ Bartons’ Rossvale Spirit of The Night at Collcrist – A short, compact dog of good colour. Nice head with well defined spectacles and a dark eye. Ears set slightly wide but carried well. A well muscled body with lovely tight feet. High tail set. Moved well.
2/ Cusicks’ Leazehond Raffles Dream – A larger dog and heavier in head than 1 although he still had a lovely expression. Ears set well. Good bone and groomed well. Seemed a little distracted on the day.

1/ Bartons’ Rossvale Spirit of The Night at Collcrist
Post Graduate Dog – 3 Entries, 1 Absent
1/ Craigs’ Flatmeer Flonkerlicht – Larger dog with a good colour although markings could be a little clearer. High set tail carried well at all times. Well bodied dog with excellent bone. Nice head with a keen expression.Ears carried well. Eyes could be darker. Moved well from behind but a little wide at the front. Showed and groomed well.
2/ Woolseys’ Zandvoort Against All Odds – Short, compact dog but would prefer more neck. Good colour. Nice head with beautiful ears. Eyes dark and a lovely shape but a bit weepy which affected the overall expression. Well bodied with lovely feet and legs. Moved ok.
Limit Dog – 5 Entries, 1 Absent
1/ Egglestons’ Martellkees Crackerjack at Ricara – My type of dog with a good colour. Well muscled with lovely bone and feet. Well placed shoulders and a good spring of rib. Lovely head and alert expression, eyes a little light. Ears on the larger side although he used them well. A little longer in the back than ideal. Moved well at front but a little close from the rear. Superbly presented. Res Best Dog
2/ Bennett & Savages’ Thorsdale Trade Mark – This dog looked in between coats so lacked the overall finished outline of 1 although you could see his markings and coat coming back in. Because of his lack of ruff it made his ears look a little large but he used them well. Head was well balanced with a lovely expression. His eye was a little round but a good, dark colour. Lovely feet and bone. Moved ok.
3/ Lushs’ Belmondo Billy at Ednaaron
Open Dog – 2 Entries, 0 Absent
1/ Hicksons’ Kichigai Great Pretender JW Sh.CM – This class was difficult as they were two very different types of dog both having their individual qualities. Nice overall shape with a profuse coat. High set tail, carried well to complete the overall picture. Good strong body and lovely legs and feet. Heavier in head than 2 but had a lovely kind expression. Moved ok. Best Dog
2/ Roses’ Valindale Rum Punch for Esorkees – A lovely dog but lacked a little enthusiasm on the day. Short, compact body but would prefer more neck. Nice colour with clear markings. Lovely head with a nice, dark eye and well placed ears. Would benefit from a bit more body. Move ok at front although quite close at the rear.
Veteran Dog– 3 Entries, 3 Absent
Vintage Dog – 4 Entries, 1 Absent
1/ Scroggs & Bennetts’ Ch. Foxifayre Oklahoma at Ledwell – I think this elderly gent would have been happier in the puppy class! He looked like he was thoroughly enjoying his day out. Lovely head and alert expression. Ears carried well even if one of them had seen better days. Good colour. Lovely overall shape and his tail was carried well over his back throughout. Moved really well considering his age.
2/ Gregorys’ Amikirs Star Quality at Pinewalk – A smaller dog but still holds his own! Lovely overall shape. Lovely head and expression. Very dark in colour so has lost a lot of his markings but his spectacles were still apparent.
3/ Lushs” Dargrant Don’t I Look Good
Breeders Open Dog – 2 Entries – 1 Absent
1/ Hicksons’ Kichigai Alexandrite
Special Not Bred by Exhibitor Dog – 3 Entries – 1 Absent
1/ Roses’ Rossvale Sacred Spirit to Esorkees – Lovely overall shape with good reach of neck. High set tail carried well. Longer in the muzzle but still balanced with overall head shape. Ears on the large side but used well. Nice eye. Good colour. High tail set but a little loose. Moved well.
2/ Craigs’ Flatmeer Flonkerlicht
3/ Lushs’ Belmondo Billy at Ednaaron
Minor Puppy Bitch – 4 Entries
1/ Stubbings’ Vandersee Autumnal Mist – This pretty little bitch pulls herself uptogether beautifully. Good colour, well bodied and well muscled for one so young. A little longer in back than I would prefer. Lovely eye and expression. Ears carried well at all times. Groomed and handled to perfection.
2/ Searles’ Brykin Beulieu at Heemstede – A less enthusiastic competitor but I am sure this will improve with age. Good body and bone. Tail was carried well but a set lower than I would like. Moved well
3/ Lushs’ Zandvoort Heaven’s Dream for Ednaaron
Puppy Bitch – 1 Entry
1/ Brewers’ Helkeesen Eventful – This little bitch has a lovely outline with a lovely reach of neck and a high tail set to complete the picture. Good clear colour and of correct texture. Well bodied, nice bone and feet. Ears on the large side but used well. Lovely alert expression. Moved well from behind but a little wide at the front. Groomed well. Best Puppy
Junior Bitch – 1 Entry
1/ Stones’ Ffyniant Sweet as Honey – A well bodied bitch with good bone. High set tail. Nice expression. Eye a little round but of good colour. Ears on the large side but carried well. I felt this bitch could have been improved by more preparation as her coat felt cloddy as if the brush had not got down beneath the top coat.
Yearling Bitch – 2 Entries – 1 Absent
1/ Stones’ Ffyniant Sweet as Honey
Novice Bitch – 3 Entries
1/ Brewers’ Helkeesen Eventful
2/ Dents’ Flatmeer Fluisteraar – Longer in the back than 1 and less neck which gave 1 a better overall shape. Good colour. High tail set carried well over her back at all times. 10/10 for enthusiasm and showmanship. Nice dark eye. Lovely feet and bone.
3/ Searles’ Leazehond Pacific Blue at Heemstede
Post Graduate Bitch – 5 Entries – 3 Absent
1/ Swifts’ Keyscourt Blue Angel – Nice overall shape. Pretty head. Slightly short in the muzzle. Lovely expression. Correctly set ears carried well. Good body and bone with well placed shoulder and good spring of ribs. Tail set good but tended to drop a little when tired. Moved well when settled.
2/ Dents’ Flatmeer Fluisteraar
Limit Bitch – 4 Entries – 2 Absent
1/ Stubbings’ Norkees Special Edition at Vandersee – Nice overall outline when tail fully over back. Pretty head and a lovely feminine expression. Lovely eye and ears set well and of good size. Good colour. Moved ok.
2/ Egglestons’ Ricara Italian Sweetheart – A rangier bitch than 1 who was a little longer in the back. Good length of leg. Ears larger but used well. Moved and showed well.
Open Bitch – 3 Entries
1/ Browns’ Ch. Rossvale Gone with the Wind – Short, compact bitch with high set tail carried well over back. Nice, clear eye with a lovely head and a beautiful feminine expression. Ears well placed and used well. Would have preferred coat to be harsher. Moved ok. Best Bitch & BIS
2/ Gregorys’ Neradmik J’Adore Amikirs – I really liked this bitch but seemed a little distracted on the day and also a little out of coat but her outline and shape was superb. Lovely colour. Tail set high and carried well over her back. Ears looked a little on the large side but I think this will improve when she has more ruff. Lovely eye and expression. Moved well. Res Best Bitch
3/ Swifts Ch. Keyscourt Another Diva
Veteran Bitch – 4 Entries – 2 Absent
1/ Swifts’ Keyscourt Kristobel – In full bloom today and thoroughly enjoying her day out. A lovely outline and a short, compact body. Pretty head, clear spectacles and a nice eye. Good colour. Moved well. Best Veteran
2/ Browns’ Ch. Rossvale Strike A Pose – What she lacked in coat she made up with enthusiasm!. Short, compact body, nice bone and feet. Pretty head and lovely expression. Just needed more coat.
Special Vintage Bitch – 3 Entries – 1 Absent
1/ Brunts’ Ch. Zandvoort Dream Come True – Pleased as punch to be out for the day. Ultra short bitch with pretty head, lovely ears and a nice eye. Coat was good but colour was very yellow. Moved ok.
2/ Eslands’ Kwintex Krystal – A longer bitch. Good bone. Pretty head with a nice eye. Tail set on the low side. Good colour. Moved ok.
Breeders Open Bitch – 2 Entries – 1 Absent
1/ Hicksons’ Ch. Kichigai Amazing Grace – A heavier type of bitch. Tail set high and carried well. Good body and bone. Lacked definition in facial markings. Well balanced head. Ears on the large side but used them well.
Not Bred by Exhibitor Bitch – 4 Entries – 2 Absent
1/ Searles’ Brykin Beulieu at Heemstede
2/ Lushs’ Zandvoort Heaven’s Dream for Ednaaron
