WELSH KENNEL CLUB – 22 AUGUST 2010
KEESHONDS
Firstly, may I thank you all for this lovely entry. Secondly, my thanks to my hardworking stewards who both helped to ensure that things ran smoothly. Some general observations of the overall entry were that on the plus side coats were of a good colour and it was good to see tails with double curls. Eye colour in the main was good as were spectacle markings. Teeth were clean and bites were good on the whole. Temperaments were superb, even if some were rather excited at being at a show. On the negative side movement could be better, with stronger hind action, many were moving far too close behind. Some were also carrying too much weight and this too will affect movement. Some tail sets were very low which spoils the overall outline of the dog. There were some round eyes in evidence which does tend to spoil the expression somewhat. I was concerned to see a number with missing teeth. Although I have working and pastoral breeds, I am not a tooth fanatic and do not want to count every single one but it was something I noticed. Finally, feet were good although some could have had shorter nails.

PUPPY DOG (7 entries, 1 absent, 1 withdrawn)
1st Henman & Peterson’s Foxifayre Doctor Zhivago. What a lovely class to start with. Loved this young male even though he was extremely naughty and gave his handler a hard time. Well proportioned masculine head with good stop. Good dark eye and well defined spectacles. Neat ears. Well arched neck into good shoulders and front with good bone and standing on neat feet. Compact body with well sprung ribs. High set, double curled tail. Presents a good outline. Moved well once settled. Must have a bright future. Was pleased to award him Best Puppy in Breed. 2nd Wells Allforus Hubba Bubba of Belanisiya – close up to 1st and very similar in type. Of good size and in excellent coat. Wedge shaped head with neat ears and a dark eye. Another with a good front and bone. Overall presents a pleasing outline. Moved well from all angles and well handled. 3rd Brunt’s Sueacres Iced Diamond
JUNIOR DOG (4 entries)
1st Kerr’s Allforus Curly Wurly – 10 month old puppy, I see litter brother to 2nd in Puppy. Very similar in type to his brother with a good wedge shaped head and a dark eye. His ear set could be better as they are set slightly wide. Well presented coat of good colour and texture. High set double curled tail enhanced his overall shape and outline. Moved well but could be tidier in front. Scored in shape and movement over 2nd. 2nd Wilkin’s Pommary Quick Silver – at 18 months, this young man still needs time to mature. Overall bigger than 1st, he has a well marked head and well set ears. His eye could be darker. Good shoulders and front. Good depth of brisket and well sprung ribs. Firm topline with a high set tail. Moved well around the ring. 3rd Wilkin’s Whizzkees Onyx Sampson

LIMIT DOG (2 entries)
1st Miles’ Allforus Frosting over Lekkerbek JW ShCM – an old favourite of mine who I haven’t judged since he was just out of Junior. This dog never puts a foot wrong. Lovely foxlike head with a dark eye and small neat ears. Well arched neck into good shoulders and straight front of medium width and neat feet. His body is short and compact with a high set tail and a harsh off standing well presented coat. Brisk and precise on the move from all angles. Well handled to get the very best from him. As I am sure his owner has heard this many times, would just like a bit more of him. 2nd Brunt’s Zandvoort Dream Machine – this young man was my heartache of the day. I really liked this dog and believe he is capable of gaining his title. However, his mind was elsewhere today and he just didn’t want to co-operate with his handler and show off his many virtues. Lovely masculine head with a definite stop. Neat well set ears. Medium eye colour but this does not distract from his expression. Arched neck into good shoulders and straight front with good bone. Short compact body and high set tail. Well muscled hindquarters. Well presented coat of good colour and texture. Smart mover but just didn’t settle into his stride today. Such a shame as I have seen perform so much better.
OPEN DOG (6 entries, 2 absent)
1st Day’s Ch Allforus Dice Master for Spitzcav JW ShCM – 4 years on the day (how often does a judge share the same birth date as the BOB winner?). Lovely male of excellent type. Well proportioned, wedge shaped head with definite stop. Dark, medium sized eye of good shape with well defined spectacles. Long, well arched neck into fairly good shoulders, good front and feet. To be hypercritical I would prefer slight more bone for his size but nevertheless, there is no mistaking he is all male. Short compact body in excellent condition. Well presented coat of good colour. Overall presents a very pleasing outline. Moved well around the ring with brisk stride and moved correctly to and fro. Handled to advantage to take the Dog CC and BOB. 2nd Rose’s Rossvale Sacred Spirit to Esorkees – another 4 year old male. Loved his well balanced head with a dark eye and well defined spectacles. Neat, well placed ears. Not quite the length of neck of the winner and reasonable shoulders. Straight front of medium width with good bone and feet. Loved his overall shape with a compact body, and well sprung ribs. Well muscled hindquarters, topped with a high set tail. Coat of excellent quality and colour and well presented. Moved with a good stride around the ring, slightly close behind which, for me, was the deciding factor today. Nevertheless was pleased to award him the Reserve CC. 3rd Peck’s Valindale Genusfour Byquy

PUPPY BITCH (4 entries)
A lovely class of young ladies, some more mature than others. 1st Passmore’s Torrikees American Affair – 10 month old young lady who is well grown for her age and presents a pleasing outline. Lovely feminine head with a dark eye to enhance her expression. Well arched, long neck into good shoulders and well boned front. Standing on good cat feet. Compact, well conditioned body, with a good spring of ribs. Strong well muscled hindquarters. Moved well around the ring, although needs to settle in hind movement. Another one who found it hard to concentrate today. 2nd Brewer & Harrison’s Helskeesen Surfin Kokomo – 8 month well schooled puppy. Slightly finer in type than first. Good shoulders and front with adequate bone. Slightly longer in body so not the shape of first. Well presented coat of good colour. Moved well around the ring. 3rd Henman, Peterson & Bell’s Foxifayre Pretty Woman
JUNIOR BITCH (4 entries, 1 absent)
1st Pattison’s Eastkees Say No More – liked this young lady very much. Similar my first in the previous class. Well proportioned head, with a lovely dark eye and well defined spectacles. Well arched long neck into good shoulders with a straight front and good bone. Short compact body and well muscled hindquarters. Moved well from all angles around the ring. Well presented coat of good colour and texture. Very promising and was pleased to award her Best Puppy Bitch. 2nd Hickson’s Kichigai Special Edition – in a smaller mould than first but nevertheless a very smart young lady, who has plenty of ring presence. Pretty head with a good expression. Good front and feet. Short compact body with a coat of good colour and texture. High set tail finishes off the picture. Moved well around the ring but would insist on pulling sideways which slightly spoilt her movement at times. Another very promising puppy with a bright future.. 3rd Wilkin’s Whizzkees Onyx Sapphire
NOVICE BITCH (2 entries, 1 absent)
1st Tew’s Calivale Some Like It Hot at Bargeway – stood alone but more than worthy of her first place. Good size bitch with a well shaped head. Would prefer a slightly better earset, as they are set a little wide apart. Well arched neck with good front and bone to complement. Well presented coat of good colour. Well sprung ribs and strong short loin. Well muscled hindquarters. Moved briskly around the ring.
POST GRADUATE BITCH (3 entries, 1 absent)
1st Wilkin’s Whizzkees Silver Slipper – two very similar bitches in this class. This young lady had a lovely feminine head and such a naughty mischievous expression. Good front and feet. Well placed shoulders and short compact body. Overall pleasing shape with good colour coat. Moved well around the ring. 2nd Carter’s Amikirs Arabella – Similar type to one. Good head and expression with a dark eye. Good body with a short back and well carried tail. Well conditioned body and coat of good colour and texture. Moved OK but just didn’t seem to settle as well.
LIMIT BITCH (5 entries)
Lovely class of bitches. 1st Sharp-Bale’s Neradmik Endless Love – 3 year old bitch who was returning to the ring following maternal duties, and who I thought looked stunning. Well proportioned head with definite stop, dark eye but could be slight smaller. Neat ears and well defined spectacles which enhanced her lovely attentive expression. Well arched long neck into good shoulders with excellent bone and good feet. Good spring of rib and well condition body. Well muscled hindquarters which she used well to move briskly around the ring. Coat of a good depth of colour and well presented, as one would expect from this kennel. Close up for the CC and was delighted to award her the Reserve CC. 2nd Stubbings’ Vandersee Autumnal Mist – was very impressed with this bitch. Wedge shaped head of good proportions, with a good eye and well defined spectacles. Another with a good reach of neck into very good shoulders and front. Short compact body with a good spring of rib. Slightly out of coat, but what she had was a good colour and texture. In very good condition throughout with great muscle tone – one of the fittest on parade today – she moved very smartly around the ring. Well handled to get the best out of her. 3rd Truelove’s Neradmik Baiodora Lady D’Winter
OPEN BITCH (7 entries, 1 absent)
What a lovely class to finish with. All such lovely bitches, I was spoilt for choice. 1st Gregory’s Ch Amikirs Adorabubble JW – this young lady has such ring presence, you can hardly fail to notice her when she enters the ring. Not a big girl but everything is there. Extremely well balanced from her beautifully feminine head to the tip of her tightly curled tail. Well placed shoulders into an excellent front with good bone for her size. Well conditioned body. Beautifully presented coat of great colour and texture. All this topped off by excellent movement. Delighted to award her the Bitch CC. 2nd Brewer’s Ch & Ir Ch Helkeesen Eventful – slightly bigger bitch than 1st but very feminine lady. Well proportioned feminine head with a good expression. Good shoulders and front with good bone and feet. Well conditioned body and good hindquarters. Coat of good colour and texture. Moved positively around the ring. A well deserved Champion. 3rd Lindsay’s Ch Enreveyar Magic Star at Mezanda
