03 Breed Notes – January 2022

A very successful Yorkshire Keesie meet up at Temple Newsam was held on Sunday, where 17 Keesies and their owners turned up and apologies from a couple more who couldn’t make it. There was me with Olympia, Tooin & Fiver, Gill with Susie, Samba, Nadia & Coco, Kathryn & Blane with Bella, Kitty & her mum with Henry (all the way from London!) Hannah & Xavi, Sam & Monty, Philippa & Miso, Sylvia & John with Boon & Nova, Wayne & Gill with Bella and Michelle & her sister with Keisha & Candy.

The meet was scheduled for 11.00am in the field by the main carpark, but a few of us were ‘misled’ by our satnavs and ended up in the middle of a housing estate; so it was probably nearer 11.30am before we were all gathered ready. It took a while before we actually set off on the walk proper as we were all constantly being stopped and asked what breed they were. There were a few other breed walks being held; Golden Retrievers, Corgis, St Bernard’s; but I think that the Keesies drew the most attention. It’s not every day you see 17 balls of fluff all charging around like loonies, playing with each other & other dogs!

The weather was cloudy, a bit nippy and fine, although the dogs did manage to find plenty of mud to wade in – well some of them anyway. Not bad considering it’s mid-January and could have been a lot worse!! We managed a short walk and ended up at the tea rooms, where we had buns and cookies and ‘posed’ group photos which drew even more attention. We eventually made our way back to the carpark by around 2.00pm. The general consensus being that a good time was had by all and we should do it again. I imagine that by the time you read this, FB and Instagram will have been inundated with photos of the walk!!

The next Keesie walk is at Chatelherault Country Park, Hamilton on 30th January. There’s also one being planned in the North East in February. All the details of these can be found on the North of England’s new FB page and on the website. If any of you reading this want to organise a walk in your area, just let us know and we’ll do our best to spread the word!
