08 Breed Notes – NoEKC Feb open 2025

It wasn’t the most auspicious of starts, waking up to find the ground white over and it snowing. Fortunately, it soon blew over and turned into yet another grey and misty day for the NoEKC’s AGM and open show, which was held at Netherton Village Hall.

The meeting was opened at just after 11.00am by Chairman Colin Barton. All the various reports had been sent to members previously so were taken as read, which made the meeting much shorter! Colin then presented the Club’s Annual Trophies on behalf of Christina and then the Congratulation rosettes, which the Club gives to members who have recently made up a Champion, were handed out. For those members who ‘won’ a rosette but weren’t at the AGM, they will be handed out at Crufts. He also formally welcomed Jane Ring and Kitty Joshi onto the committee.

I explained that the DNA test for PHPT wasn’t mentioned in my Health report as the news came through from Cambridge a day to late to be included. There being no further business, the Chairman closed the meeting at 11:27 am, thanking all for their attendance and participation. The Keeshond Welfare report from Caron Bell & Val Tew was read out by Colin after the meeting had closed.

The judging was due to start at 12.00pm with the Special Award Classes, but after having waited 15 minutes and being unable to contact the judge Cathy Proctor; it was decided to start with the judging of the Open show first. The judge was Jenny Shorer-Wheeler and she had drawn an entry of 22 Keesies with 3 absentees. With only 3 dog classes and 1 bitch class having more than 1 dog present, it didn’t take Jenny long to choose her winners having thoroughly gone over the dogs and moved them round. She also very kindly brought a tub of home baked tuna cakes for all the (four legged) winners which went down a treat!!

Best Dog & BVIS was Hickson’s Ch Only The Lonley (Bert von Ricara (imp Den) x Kichigai Special Edition) while Reserve Best Dog was the winner of Open, Gill Brunt’s Ch Divnyi Drug Dar (imp Russ) (Russ Ch Cinerus Artic Prince of Star x Russ Ch Divnyi Drug Gusja Lebed)

Best Bitch with Best in Show went to Gill Brunt’s Goldgin Chanel (imp Rus) (Rus Ch Rizheis Shain iz Mirashela x Rus Ch Zareslava iz Mirashela) from Limit. At her first show, winning Reserve Best Bitch with Best Puppy in Show was Caron Bell’s Allforus Miracle of Love (Torrikees Crazy Love x Allforus Game Set N’match)

It was 1.45pm when Jenny finished her judging, by which time secretary Allison had just heard that the SAC judge had completely forgotten about her appointment. Whilst the puppy walk was going on, a brief discussion was held and Natasha Hickson was asked to and agreed to judge the Special Award Classes. The winner of Special Yearling Dog or Bitch was Caron Bell with Allforus Miracle Of Love and the winner of Special Open Dog or Bitch was my Flatmeer Fleur Dilly.

Kitty and her mum Dipti were busy in the kitchen providing bacon butties, hot soup and pizza with the bread rolls being very generously donated by her local Morrison’s and Andy Fitches helped Ann Toward on the raffle and took an amazing £81.

It was all over and done with by 2.15pm giving everyone plenty of time to get home whilst it was still light.
