Keesies were first in the ring for a 9.30am start at BUBA and it was a cold and foggy early morning start for exhibitors as they made their way to the Staffordshire Showground. The fine mist, which turned into persistent light rain, made it a miserable day; but it was warm and cheery inside with the hall decked out with Christmas trees.
Our judge was Sue Smith (Sueacres) awarding CC’s in the breed for the second time (her first appointment was at WELKS in 2013) and she had drawn an entry of 46 dogs with 13 absentees. As it turned out, even though judging was delayed by half an hour to 10.00am due to a bad accident on the M6; it was all over and done with before 12.00pm.
It was one of those days that Gill Brunt won’t forget in a hurry; as winning his first big green card with Best of Breed, was her Zandvoort Purrsonal Life (AI) (KJ’s It’s Nothing Purrsonal x Bargeway Nearly An Angel of Zandvoort) from the Post Graduate class. Sam’s brother Joe – Sue Pattison’s Zandvoort Gettin’ Purrsonal for Eastkees (AI) kept it in the family by winning his first RCC from Limit.
The BCC went to Dawn Gregory’s Ch Amikirs Fabulicious Time JW (Eastkees Time Lord x Ch Amikirs Bubblelicious) and not to be outdone, the RCC was another first for the boys’ sister River – Val Tew’s Zandvoort Purrsonal Touch for Bargeway (AI). Sue Pattison then rounded off her day with her young Sylvie – Eastkees Sparkling Diamond (Eastkees Time Lord x Eastkees Daisy’s Mayhem) getting Best Puppy.
BUBA is one of the few shows that still offer class prize money; a first place in all breed classes earning £5, and with Arden Grange giving a 2.5k bag of food for each Best of Breed and Best Puppy in Breed.
Liz Stannard was judging all the stakes classes; in the Dog or Bitch Plush Puppy Champion Stakes Dawn Gregory got a 5th place with Ch Amikirs Bubblelicious JW winning one pound prize money and in The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Stakes Dawn got a 2nd place with Bubbles’ daughter Ch Amikirs Fabulicious Time JW winning £25 prize money.
Mel Harris and young Archie, Neradmik Cary Grant for Watchkees (Imp Can) got a first place in the Buddies Yearling Stakes, winning £25 prize money and a 2.5 k bag of Arden Grange dog food.
BUBA hosted the Utility Junior Handling Association’s semi-final where keesies did well with their young handlers. Coming first in the 12-16 age group and qualifying for the final to be held at Discover Dogs in November 2018 was Paige Spencer handling Mel Harris’ Toby – Ch Neradmik All About The Boy For Watchkees ShCM JW and coming 6th was Brooke Murray with Dawn Gregory’s Ch Amikirs Fabulicious Time JW
Karin and Natasha Hickson had organised a buffet lunch on the benches afterwards – very well timed with the judging and for those of us out there who ‘don’t do Facebook’; I was told that the next keesie bench buffet will be at Crufts with all contributions welcome!
