27 Breed Notes – Windsor 2025

It was a very hot and sticky day at Windsor where we were second in the ring after 40 Jap Spitz; where our judge Colin Barton (Collcrist) (who last judged the Keeshond Club Ch show in 2021) had drawn an entry of 38 Keesies with 7 absentees, with judging starting around 11.30am. All the classes were filled apart from Post Graduate Dog and the mixed Special Beginners class and it was all over by 1.30pm

The DCC with Best of Breed went to Joan Miles, daughter Sarah Dean and the Cullen’s Ch Skyline’s Outlander at Lekkerbek (imp USA)(Am Ch Windrift’s Dirty Hairy x Am Ch Skyline’s Mine Eyes Have Seen) and the RDCC went to the Veteran winner, Hickson’s Ch Only The Lonley (Bert von Ricara (imp Den) x Kichigai Special Edition)

The BCC went to the winner of Post Graduate, Gill Brunt’s Zandvoort Moonlight (Ch Divnyi Drug Dar (Imp Rus) x Almaznyi Istochnik Vologodskie Kruzheva) with the RBCC going to Fedeli and and Bellesoeur’s Int Ch Ostara Vita de La Lumiere d’Hemera (Int Ch Iron Man Del Monte Dragnone x Int Ch Laicka) from Open. Best Puppy was Alison
Bennett’s Zandvoort Mr Sunshine (Ch Divnyi Drug Dar (Imp Rus) x Almaznyi Istochnik Tropicheskaya Noch (Imp Rus)) who then went on to get short listed in the Puppy Group.

Joan Miles has had a somewhat strange request from a student at the London College of Fashion on behalf of a London-based sustainable fashion startup; who are undertaking research and development on the brushed undercoat of double-coated dogs. If anybody is willing to send their clean, brushed undercoat, please package it in paper bags or cardboard boxes (not plastic bags so the fibre can ‘breathe’) and send to: Sophie Templer, 14B Saint George’s Drive (Basement Flat) London. They have also requested that, if possible, people send a minimum of 500 grams per shipment to keep things sustainable and avoid unnecessary trips, packaging waste and emissions. Postage will be reimbursed, if required, so please take a photo of your receipt.

As an aside, whilst talking about this, Joan was informed that you should not put dog coat out for the birds to use in their nests if you regularly use parasiticides (ie flea & tick treatments etc) as traces remain in the coat and this has been found to contribute to the death of young chicks and other wildlife.
