30 Breed Notes – SUBC 2024

After not having been to Kelso for many years, I was back at my favourite venue again for the second time in a month, this time for SUBC’s inaugural Championship show. Having spent Friday evening sat out in the (hot) sunshine, it was a shock to the system (to put it mildly) when Saturday dawned cold, wet and windy. And unfortunately, the weather only got worse, with a bitterly cold wind and the rain getting heavier and heavier. It was a real shame as the committee had put a lot of effort into providing good sized in/out rings, with plenty of space for spectators and (somewhat optimistically as it turned out) wooden picnic tables and chairs. Despite this, at the end of the day there were still plenty of exhibitors staying on for the group, or maybe they were just hoping for the rain to stop so they wouldn’t get soaked going to the car park!!

Due to the scheduled judge, Lorraine Bolton withdrawing, our replacement judge was Janet Kay (her first appointment was at BUBA in 2022) She had 17 dogs entered with just 2 absentees; there were no entries in Junior Dog, Puppy & Post Graduate Bitch and both Special Beginners classes. Keesies were first in the ring with a 9.00am start and judging was over around 10.15am.

Winning his 1st big green card with Best of Breed was Sharon and George Rose’s Dianakees Inspector Morse at Esorkees (Ch Rossvale Endeavour to Esorkees x Ednaaron Moondance) from Limit. Lewis also got short listed in the group under Tom Mather. The RDCC went to the Veteran winner, Natasha Hickson’s Ch Only The Lonley (Bert von Ricara (imp Den) x Kichigai Special Edition)

It was also a 1st big green card for my Flatmeer Fleur’s Krystal (Milan Grey giant Tichauspitz x Flatmeer Fleur Dilly) from Junior with the RBCC going to Michelle, Tom & Caroline Gate’s Winklestar Alsephina via Lacetrom (Vivids Majestic Prince of Winklestar (imp USA) x Winklestar Serendipity) from Limit, handled as usual by Michelle Wright.
Best Puppy was the Cullen’s, Joan Miles and daughter Sarah Dean’s Skyline’s Outlander at Lekkerbek (imp USA)(Am Ch Windrift’s Dirty Hairy x Am Ch Skyline’s Mine Eyes Have Seen).
