39 Breed Notes – B’ham Nat & KC Ch 2021

For the second weekend in a row, Keesies had two championship shows on the same day; Birmingham National followed by the Keeshond Club’s postponed April 2021 Ch show. Keeshonds were scheduled to be second in the ring after an entry of 80 Lhasa Apsos, which meant it was another late start (Jane Paradise started her judging around 1.00pm) and an even later finish – Rodney Oldham finished just after 5.30pm.

This timing wasn’t entirely the fault of either committee though. An extra ring had been made available so that Keesie judging could have started at 10.30am, but as the National’s secretary wasn’t able to get in touch with every exhibitor, it couldn’t happen. It seems that not all exhibitors had given their contact details (phone & email) with their entry. So it might be an idea if everyone checked that their details are complete (& up to date) with all of the various online printers and that to ensure that in future all postal entry forms are fully completed.

This ring was right outside the Argyle Building (where the Lhasa’s were being judged) and was subsequently offered for use with a 12.00pm start (which was the ‘not before time’ given) but apparently, despite the weather being ideal for showing; exhibitors elected to stay inside the stuffy building which meant everyone had an extra hours wait.

Jane Paradise was awarding CC’s for the 1st time and she had drawn an entry of 44 dogs with 10 absentees. In dogs there were no entries for Special Beginners, Minor Puppy, Puppy and Yearling and there were no entries in Puppy Bitch either.

Winning a second CC (he won his 1st last weekend at the NoEKC’s Ch show) with Best of Breed was the winner of Veteran – Cheri & Trevor Rogers’ Aust Can Am Ch Keez Kause For Koncern (Keesway The Marksman at Keez x Keez Tayla Maid) with the RDCC going to the winner of Limit – Mel Harris’ Kichigai boy Is Back In Town for Watchkees (Ch Neradmik All About The Boy for Watchkees x Kichigai Lilac Wine).

The BCC went to Jean Sharp Bale’s Ch Neradmik Berry’s Swan Song (Ch Samkees With Love to Neradmik (imp Mlt) x Ch Neradmik Miss Hollyberry) with the RBCC going to Dawn Gregory’s Amikirs Lovealicious (Ch Neradmik All About The Boy for Watchkees x Ch Amikirs Bubblelicious) from Junior. Best Puppy was Sue Lindsay’s Watermyth Cassiopeia by Mezanda (Mezanda Merry Starshower x Lilli Marlina at Watermyth)

After a half hour break it was the turn of the Keeshond Club’s Ch show where the judge was Rodney Oldham (who last judged Keesies at Crufts in 2018) and he had drawn an entry of 39 dogs with 9 absentees and again there were no entries in the Minor Puppy, Puppy and Yearling dog classes.

It was a crowning third CC (all coming at once like buses!) with Best of Breed and Best Veteran for Trevor and Cheri’s Konner (Aust Can Am Ch Keez Kause For Koncern) who can now English Ch to his collection of titles and Mel Harris’ TJ (Kichigai boy Is Back In Town for Watchkees) won another RDCC, again from Limit.

The day just carried on getting better for Trevor & Cheri as they then won a first CC with Franki (Can Am Ch Cedarhills Shamrock Foreign Exchange at Keez) The RBCC went to David Peck’s Byquy Starmaker (Ch Winklestar Hadar x Byquy Walkin Boots), handled by David Matthews who also won Best Puppy with Winklestar Aurora at Valindale (Vivids Majestic Prince of Winklestar (IMP USA) x Winklestar Serendipity)
