46 Breed Notes – November 2022

What a glorious day it was for the final central Scotland Keesie walk of the year. Bright blue skies and winter sunshine made for a fantastic turnout.
Increasing on last time’s 9 keesies, we had a fantastic 11 turn out on Sunday! Coming along this time were Charlotte & Shelagh with Talyn & Jura, Shirley & Tom with Mika (the oldest keesie present at 10 years old), Ruby & Tara, Shaun & Fay with Magnus & Shetland Sheepdog Flora, Aimee & Ross with Koda, Scott & Hannah with Barra, Amy with Sana, Nicola with Star and Samantha with 16-week-old puppy Skyla.
The walk started from outside the Burrell Collection at just gone 11am, taking in sights from around the whole of Pollock Country Park (including seeing the infamous Highland Cows). The walk finished at just gone 1pm with a lot of tired out Keesies!

The weather was certainly better ‘up north’ as it was a dank & foggy autumnal morning for the Yorkshire Keesie walk, held the same morning at Temple Newsome. I suspect the poor weather coupled with it being Remembrance Sunday accounted for the low turnout, as there were just 6 Keesies plus 2 Cockerpoos. Myself with Olympia, Tooin and Fiver, Kathryn & Blane with Bella, Michelle & sister Maxine with Candy, Gill, Wayne and Bella, plus their family and Cockerpoo and the 2 Gills with their Cockerpoo who had travelled up from Derbyshire for the walk. One of the Gills used to have Keesies way back and knew the late Audrey Woodiwiss. The dogs enjoyed themselves running through the leaves and mud and the walk ended back at the carpark for tea and cakes – very civilised!

There are plans for New Year Keesie walks to be held in January – let’s hope the weather is good, otherwise it’ll be mugs of soup instead of cake at the end!! Information about all these events will be posted on the Club’s FB page and website as and when.

Don’t forget that this Sunday the 20th is the last chance to get your Keesies eyes tested at a heavily subsidised rate at the Club’s Ch show being held at Thorpe Willoughby Village Hall, nr Selby YO8 9PA.

Testing is £25 per dog and just £15 for an Oldie (born before November 2014) either by cheque (made payable to the North of England Keeshond Club) or cash – no credit cards and please don’t forget to bring your dog’s KC registration with you. There will be hot food and drinks and home-made cakes available from the kitchen.
