47 Breed Notes – NoEKC Ch 2022

For the first time in what seemed like ages, the rain had finally stopped for the Club’s Ch show on Sunday; meaning that we could all stay dry whilst unloading everything. Our judge was Corry Saes (a German Spitz specialist) from Holland; she has awarded CC’s here in England several times, the last time being in 2009.

Corry had drawn an entry of 60 Keesies with 15 absentees; the only classes with no entries were Yearling Dog and Special Vintage Dog. Judging started at 10.00am and with a short break for lunch was over by 2.00pm, enabling everyone to pack their cars and set off before the rain started.

From Junior winning his crowning third CC was David Peck’s Keitakees Someone To Love at Byquy (Ch Neradmik Family Affair with Lekkerbek x Byquy Kinky Boots at Keitakees) handled as usual by David Matthews. Young Blue won his 1st CC this year at Birmingham City from judge Keith Baldwin and his second followed quickly at South Wales from Robin Newhouse. The RDCC went to his kennel mate Kwajongen He’s A Dandy Byquy (Ch Wund-R-Y Workin for a Livin at Staryk x Ch Byquy Pebbles at Kwajongen) winner of Open, handled by David in the class and Melanie Reed Peck in the challenge.

Also winning a crowning CC with Best of Breed was Dawn Gregory’s Amikirs Lovealicious (Ch Neradmik All About The Boy for Watchkees x Ch Amikirs Bubblelicious) from the Special Bred by Exhibitor class. Her 1st CC was at Leeds in 2021 from Janice Bannister and her 2nd at Southern Counties earlier this year from Finnish Judge Annukka Paloheimo Segersven.

Ending her puppy showing in style was Shelley Johnston’s Tykees Full Of Chaos (Shelderon Stemmig Sage with Tykees x Leazehond Amber Steppes with Tykees) A day before her first birthday, Silver won her first RCC and was also Best Puppy in Show.

BVIS was Nichola Kerr’s Caraspitz Good Luck Charm and the Golden Oldie (for the oldest Keesie exhibited at the show) was the Gate’s Lacetrom Cruivie; Kimi is just turned 13 and was handled as usual by Michelle Wright.

Tyra Church won the Bill Purdon Memorial Trophy for Best Handler and Ann Burnett was the winner of the £50 Lucky Catalogue number prize. Many thanks to Graham Copley for stewarding and for all the photos he took.

The kitchen, manned by Nicola and Christina Barton and Steve Brown, helped during the day by Nicky Potts, Debbie Palmer, Kathryn Coleman and Colin (when he wasn’t on Chairman duties) were kept busy all day selling homemade hot food and cakes and took £172. Door sales took £31 and the raffle £141. Many thanks to Gill King and Sue Pattison who stepped in to help Nicky and Kathryn behind the ‘Club table’ with the raffle and table sales.

The last of the clubs’ subsidised eye testing was held at the show and was a success with another 17 Keesies having their eyes done; including 6 Oldies. Enormous thanks to Blane Watson who spent most of the day doing the BVA paperwork and helping things to run smoothly. The results of these will go up (with the tests done at the Keeshond Club’s Ch show in April) on the ‘Eye Register List’ on the Health Matters website. If you have a current eye certificate from a test done elsewhere, send me a copy and it’ll also go on the register.

On another note, it never ceases to amaze me how many owners of male dogs think that it is perfectly acceptable to allow their boy to cock his leg anywhere indoors (especially on the door frames going in & out of the hall) and then for them not to clean up after them. On Sunday one boy actually managed to fill the box containing the Club mail outs and magazines which was under the table (needless to say no-one owned up) and the door frame stank from the urine dripping down it. Contrary to many owners’ beliefs, Committees are not responsible for clearing up after other peoples’ dogs. And people wonder why we lose venues????????

There is now a revised judging order for BUBA’s Ch show in a couple of weeks’ time. Keeshonds are now in the Main Hall, ring 9 with a 9.00am start for Janet Kaye; who is awarding CC’s in Keesies for the first time and has drawn an entry of 50 dogs.
