47 Breed Notes – NoEKC Ch show 2023

Last year, the Committee of the NoEKC decided to try and make showing more cost effective for exhibitors (and hopefully attract a better entry for the judges), by holding the July Open show in conjunction with the November Ch show. It certainly seemed to work, as both shows attracted the highest number of entries seen this year apart from Crufts. Did you think it worked? If you have any suggestions on the Club’s joint Shows, please let us know, we would love to hear some feedback.

Judging started promptly at 9.30am and apart from a short 5 minute ‘comfort break’ between dogs and bitches, both shows carried straight on and judging was all over and done with by around 4.30pm. Surprisingly the day wasn’t as long as previous club Ch shows – I guess we’ve all quickly got used to smaller entries with consequently briefer shows.

The judge for the Open Show was Sue Butterfield and she had drawn an entry of 58 dogs with 10 absentees. There were no entries in Puppy and Novice Dog, and with Vintage Bitch having the largest entry.

Best Dog and Best Opposite Sex was the Matthews family & Tracy Lee’s Winklestar Deneb at Valindale (Winklestar Reggie x Winklestar Serendipity) from Junior, handled as usual by David Matthews. Reserve Best Dog was Gill Brunt’s Divnyi Drug Dar (imp Russ) (Russ Ch Cinerus Artic Prince of Star x Russ Ch Divnyi Drug Gusja Lebed) from Limit.

Best Bitch and Best in Show was Andy & Jean Fitches’ Sofia Loren Della Ginevrina (Imp Ita) (Carpe Diem Della Ginevrina x You Are My Everything Della Ginevrina) from Open. Reserve Best Bitch and Reserve Best in Show went to the winner of Limit, Jean Sharp Bale’s Neradmik Shimmer N’ Shine (Ikon’s Shine In The Spotlight x Neradmik Norma Jean)

Best Veteran in Show was Natasha Hickson’s Ch Kichigai’s Only The Lonley (Bert von Ricara (imp Den) x Kichigai Special Edition) and Best Puppy in Show was Pauline Vidler’s Tykees Is Courage (Serenaubach Full of Wonder x Tykees It’s Just a Phase)

Our judge for the Ch show was Gustaaf van den Bosch from Belgium awarding CC’s in England for the first time and judging started about 5 minutes after the end of the open show. Gustaaf had drawn an entry of 66 Keesies with 11 absentees; there were no entries in Puppy, Novice and Good Citizen Dog and both Yearling classes. Limit Dog had the largest entry of 9 dogs.

DCC with Best in Show was Joan Miles and Sarah Dean’s Ch Neradmik Kiss Chase with Lekkerbek (Ch Neradmik Family Affair with Lekkerbek x Ch Neradmik Miss Holly Berry) and winning his first RDCC was Ann Burnett’s Torrikees We Will Rock You (Ch Quasars Brilliant Light van het Earlskamp Serenaubach (imp Bel) x Ch Torrikees Lust For Life) from Limit.

BCC, BOS and RBIS was Dawn Gregory’s Ch Amikirs Lovelicious (Ch Neradmik All About The Boy for Watchkees x Ch Amikirs Bubblelicious) from the Breeders class. RBCC was Jean Sharp Bale’s Neradmik Shimmer N’ Shine (Ikon’s Shine In The Spotlight x Neradmik Norma Jean) from Limit.
Best Puppy in Show was Susi Gardner’s Devonia’s Love Wil Find A Way for Manzanakees (Serenaubach Lleuad Titan x Devonia Black Pearl) and Best Veteran in Show was Natasha Hickson’s Ch Kichigai’s Only The Lonley (Bert von Ricara (imp Den) x Kichigai Special Edition).

Shelley Johnston won the Bill Purdon Memorial Trophy for Best Handler, Susi and Steve Gardner won the Open Show’s £25 Lucky Catalogue number prize and Sue Pattison was the winner of the Ch show’s £50 Lucky Catalogue number prize. Doris Purdon again generously donated £25 each for Best Dog, Best Bitch, Best Veteran and Best Puppy for the Ch show and Sheila Brown made Specials for the main winners of both shows.

There was a new team manning the kitchen; Rosie McGowan, Kitti Thanki, her mum Dipti, Barbara Stott, helped by Nicky Potts, were kept busy all day selling homemade hot food and cakes and made a very tasty £255. The raffle took£144 thanks to Sue Pattison who also stepped in to help Ann Toward behind the ‘Club table’ with the raffle, Silent Auction and table sales. The Silent Auction raised an amazing £560 which is being shared between the Health Fund and Keeshond Welfare. Many thanks to everyone who helped out on the day and to those who gave generous donations for the auction, raffle and contributions for the kitchen – it is very much appreciated.

It was nice to see Ruth Burgess (who was brought to the show by her son & family) and Joe Swift with daughter Beki enjoying themselves at the show, catching up with old friends.

At BUBA’s Ch show in a couple of weeks’ time. Keeshonds are in the Main Hall, ring 10 with a 9.30am start for Gill Brunt (Zandvoort); who is awarding CC’s in Keesies for the first time and has drawn an entry of 55 dogs.
