49 Breed Notes – BUBA 2018

At BUBA Keesies were second in the ring for FCI judge Georg Walther (who was awarding CC’s in the UK for the first time). He had drawn the largest entry of the year after Crufts and the club breed shows – 60 Keesies with 13 absentees. The one Junior bitch entered was absent and there were no entries for Special Beginners Bitch; but apart from that there were some well filled classes, with Puppy Bitch having eight girls present and Open Bitch with nine in the ring.

He was also judging 75 Japanese Spitz, so it was 1.00pm before we got into the ring and it was over by 3.20pm. Karin Hickson had organised a bench party which was held at noon, before judging started. The highlight, amongst lots of goodies, had to be the fabulous cakes that Marlene and Frankie had brought over from Belgium with them – not even crumbs were left over for a doggie bag there!!

DCC with BOB was Melanie Harris’ Ch Neradmik All About The Boy for Watchkees JW ShCM (Ch Am Ch Kemonts Skylines Game Boy (imp USA) x Ch Lady Godiva’s Guilty Pleasures with Neradmik (imp Fin)). It was a first green card for Nichola Kerr’s Levi Altere V Kees Uit De Polder’s (Imp Nld) (Keesbrook Boots Made F’Walking x Is Het Magie V Kees Uit De Polder’s) I’m not sure that a delighted Nichola could believe that young Erik had behaved himself for a second week running!

It was a second CC, this time with Best Puppy, for Sue Lindsay’s Cosmic Dream’s Damn You Look Good for Mezanda (Imp Nor) (Dungens Never Ending Dream x Dungens Kosmic Love) The RBCC went to the winner of Open, Pauline Wilson’s Gallowtree Tassel (Enreveyar Elgar x Ednaaron Mayweed at Gallowtree) handled by Richard Lemon.

Liz Dunhill was judging all the stakes classes, where Keesies did well. Sue Wilkes won a third place (and £7 cash prize) in the Veteran stakes with Helkeesen Surfin at Dakaraikees. Sue Lindsay and Asta won the Puppy Bitch stakes and £15 cash, Jane Saunders got a VHC and a fiver in the Yearling Stakes with Liefkees Adina and Wendy McKean’ Kichigai This Girl Is Mine At Yawren won fourth in the Good Citizen Dog Scheme Stakes Dog or Bitch winning a tenner.

At West Lothian CS on Saturday Tom and Caroline Gate’s Lacetrom Shuna (Ch Winklestar Hadar x Lacetrom Cruivie) handled as usual by daughter Michelle Wright, won Best AVNSC and then went on to win G2 under Sheila Thomson.

The following day at Land o’Burns it was another Best of Breed for Michelle and Ziva from Judge Andrew Clark-Maclean. As it was St Andrew’s day on Friday all the winning rosettes were in the shape of thistles which was a really nice touch.

Some sad news that Ch Am Can Ch Keymonts Skyline’s Game Boy, better known as Ferris, died at the weekend a month after his 14th birthday. He came to England in June 2011 and entered the ring handled by Joan Miles at Blackpool where he won his one and only RCC.

Ferris and Joan then went onto win 17 CC’s including Utility Group 2 at Crufts in 2012 before returning to the US in March 2013. He has been Top Keeshond Stud Dog since 2012, was 3rd Top Stud All Breeds in 2013, Top Stud All Breeds in 2014 and Runner up Top Stud All Breeds in 2015. In 2017, Ferris became the Breed’s Top Stud record holder for siring 14 champions; breaking Commandant of Duroya’s record of 12 champions which had stood since the mid 1970’s.

There was no trumpet fanfare announcement on his arrival in the UK; as right until the last minute Joan could not believe that his owners – Kristen and Susan Cullen, would actually let him make the trip to England from the US. But they did and as they say, the rest is history.
