It was a great honour for me to be invited to judge the Championship Show of the North of England Keeshond Club in Rothwell. This was my first judging appointment in England – of course not the first show – I’ve often visited the great English dog shows, but I’ve never been to a breed show of a Special Club. I have judged Wolfsspitz for about 20 years, in Germany and on the continent, but such a high number of quality dogs as in Rothwell I’ve never judged, not even in the great FCI shows. I was very pleased about that and I would like to thank you all.
The over all quality of the Keeshond shown in your Club was absolutely convincing. A lot of the placed dogs could be shown in any great show on the continent and they would not be out of place there. Especially remarkable I found was the high quality of the bitches.
Two things that I noticed were that many of the dogs had obvious problems in their movement and that also many of them were carrying too much weight. This is why I didn’t place some dogs. One thing I would like to mention is the good temperament of the English Keeshond, they all are used to be touched and the handling is excellent, so that all were shown to the best advantage. In comparison about this, this is something that the exhibitors on the Continent could do to learn from.
About my report – for me it is quite unusual to write a report and the short critiques refer to my notes & digital photos. With the great number of dogs requiring a critique, I hope that I have everyone correct – I have done my best.

Ebenfalls 9 Monate alt, aber leider schon viel zu schwer gefüttert. Dadurch fehlt ihm das jugendliche temperamentvolle Gangwerk.

1ST : BENNETT’S THORSDALE TRADE MARK
This dog shows, even in the age of only 13 month, all the preferences of his breed. It has a masculine expression; a correct square mould and his excellent coat showing the correct “grey cloudy” colour. He show itself with presence, shows correct movement and it is presented at the best. For me this is a dog with futures. DOG CC
2ND : WOOLSEY’S ZANDVOORT AGAINST ALL ODDS
13 month old young dog, which shows also a lot of excellent details. However his expression isn’t the optimal.
3RD : BELLS ALLFORUS TOP GUN
Even though this dog is 13 month old, it appears very youthful and unready against the both previously placed.
YEARLING DOG – 3
1ST : CRAIG’S FLATMEER FLONKERLICHT
1 ½ year old sturdy dog with masculine expression, super neat coat, which also shows many of dark parts. It shows a lot of presence. The rear movement has to change for the better
2ND : BRUNT’S FOXIFAYRE FLAME DANCER OF ZANDVOORT
14 month old dog in the correct size, it lacks a bit in the length of his neck and the back looks a little bit long.
