Many thanks to the officers and committee for inviting me to judge their breed open show.
I thoroughly enjoyed my day with some lovely dogs to go over. Thanks to the exhibitors for the pleasure.
I noticed a few exhibits either wide at front or narrow behind, we do not want to lose that clean brisk movement the keesies are known for. I know we judge based on confirmation and against the breed standard but also it is a beauty show and I personally prefer a well groomed dog as this could be the deciding factor in final decisions. Some exhibits could benefit from a good groom.
BIS was Amikirs Fabulicious Time JW, RBIS & BOSIS was CH Neradmik All About The Boy For Watchkees JW, 2 stunning examples of the breed. BPIS was Neradmik Cary Grant for Watchkees & BVIS was Lacetrom Cruivie.
MPD (1, 1) 1st – Harris – Neradmik Cary Grant For Watchkees – Wow what a cheeky 7 month boy. Presented with a lovely outline, with correct markings and colour. Exquisite head with correct eye & ear shape, compact body nice size for age. He was slightly naughty on the move but settled very well and showed me what he could do. His cheekiness won him BPIS. Once he matures I’m sure will push the top spots.
PD (3, 1) 1st – Simpson – Shelderon Sirius Star – 7 months slightly unsettled at first on the move. Correct head, coat of correct texture but markings could be a bit more defined, with a little more practice on the move he’ll stand out. 2nd – King – Allforus Terrific Turtle – on initial look thought this would be my class winner, 9 months and well coated for age. All male head with a sweet expression, beautiful markings well defined, well up for size do not want him any bigger. Moved ok but developed a lot of ‘chat’ and decided not to cooperate at the end. It was a pity as he is a nice lad.
JD (2, 2) 1st – Brunt – Zandvoort Purrsonal Life (AI) 2nd – Pattisons – Zandvoort Gettin Purrsonal for Eastkees (AI) These 2 boys were so similar it was a hard decision for 1st place and I wasn’t surprised to find they are litter brothers. Both boys are similar in every way. Correct head with correct ear shape, lovely almond shaped eyes with specs! Well proportioned in body with correct coat texture and defined markings, both moved cleanly and with purpose but in the end it was all down to my personal preference which was the expression!! These 2 will exchange places many times I’m sure.
PGD (2, 0) 1st – Fusco – Amikirs Lord of The Bubbles – A lovely 18 month chap, I liked his shape and balance. A lovely foxy head with expressive eyes and spectacles, lovely arched neck with ruff to highlight it. Coat of correct texture with well defined markings and colour and with a curled tail to match. Moved ok in the class but improved in the challenge enough to be awarded RBD. 2nd – Grahamslaw – Shelderon Spirit Walker – I preferred the colour on this boy, markings could be a bit more defined, correct head with spectacles, nice shape with correct carriage of his tail. Moved ok, did tend to be a bit wide in front.
LD (2, 2) 1st – Brunt – Kimokees Laughs N Runs of Zandvoort – 2 ½ yr old male of different type. Nice shape head with correct eye shape with spectacles, ears just slightly large for me, but this did not detract from his head. Nicely boned with good coat of correct colour, markings and texture, although a bit heavy coated for me. Moved ok when settled, was the better mover in the class. 2nd – Wilkin – Pommary Ruff’n Ready at Valindale – Slightly larger boy, with a quality head with correct eye and ear placement, colour correct but markings could be a bit more defined although they were there. Moved ok but at times was a bit close behind.
OD (1, 0) 1st – Harris – CH Neradmik All About the Boy at Watchkees JW ShCM – Wow, what a boy!!! An all male head with the most sweetest of expressions, reminded me of my own dog. Excellent bone and very well balanced, with an excellent topline. Fantastic coat with good clean colour with well defined markings with a correct tail, moved with purpose and very cleanly. In the challenge for BIS he just let himself down with lifting his tail, but a worthy champion and one I would have no problem in taking home!! BD, RBIS & BOS.
VD (4, 0) 1st – Gates – Valindale What Do You Think About Lacetrom – I have always admired this boy, he does not look his age!! He wasn’t in the best of coat today but what he had was correct, nice markings with a good clean colour. All male head with an alert expression (in the class anyway) on a good body with correct tail carriage and moved perfectly. In the challenge for BD he refused to use his ears and due to this he also lost out to his kennel mate for BVIS, which is a shame but understandable due to the long day. 2nd – Brunt – CH Zandvoort Dream Machine – Another dog which I have admired from ringside but today was unfortunate to meet the 1st place winner. He really didn’t put a foot wrong, excels in breed type but on the day I just preferred the overall balance and head of the first place winner and I’m sure that these 2 will exchange places many times!! 3rd – Wilkin – CH Pommary Quick Silver At Whizzkees – Nice male, well up on size, nicely put together, nice colour and markings on his coat, he did move well but was unfortunate to meet the others today.
Breeders (2, 0) 1st – Stubbings – Vandersee Irish Guard – A nicely shaped boy with a beautiful coat with correct markings. An alert expression on a correct head, nice ear placement and spectacles. Moved well when he settled but was starting to lose interest in the end, still a nice boy though. 2nd– Hill – Plymkees Cool Dude ShCM – Felt sorry for the handler of this highly excitable boy!! Correct head and nicely boned, coat of correct colour and markings and correct tailset, however it was hard to assess the movement as he wanted out the ring to his ‘parent’. I’m sure if they changed handlers he might have settled better in the ring.
Special Not Bred By Exhibitor (1, 0) 1st – Brunt – Kimokees Laughs N Runs At Zandvoort.
MPB (1, 0) 1st – Palmer – Shelderon Super Steller – 6 months pretty bitch, I found her to be absolutely scrumptious. Nice size, a very pretty and feminine head with all the correct markings, nice body and good topline, walked really well and cleanly. The only disadvantage was the tendancy to watch her handler while walking and this made her high step, get that right and she will go far, a really promising little lady.
PB (2, 0) 1st – Pattisons – Lyntova Midnight Angel With Eastkees (IKC) – A gorgeous little lady who was showing like a pro. Beautifully presented and groomed. The most prettiest of heads with an alert and sweet expression. Very balanced outline, compact and in excellent condition. Coat of correct colour and markings, really hard to fault her she is full of breed type but in the final challenge I just preferred the boy. RBPIS. 2nd – Wilson – Byquy Puss In Boots – Another nice lady, with all correct features, same remarks as above but lost out on movement as she was slightly unsure, but once she settles will change places I’m sure.
JB (4, 2) 1st – Hickson – Kichigai Moonlight Dancer – Caught my eye as she entered the ring, fabulous bitch excelling in breed type, full of substance with a correct coat with excellent colour and markings, beautiful head all feminine but something spooked her on the move which did hinder any further progress in the challenge which was such a shame as she is one to watch. RBB. 2nd – Kerr – Caraspitz Good Luck Charm – Different type with a lot to like, correct foxy head with a feminine appearance, nicely bodied with a coat slightly shorter than the winner, moved well just unfortunate to come against the winner.
YB (3, 1) 1st – Gregory – Amikirs Fabulicious Time JW – Wow what a girl!! Excelled in breed type, with a sweet head all feminine. Straight front, beautiful angulation all over, moved straight, briskly and with purpose. Nicely boned not over done. Excellent tailset carried well over her back. Coat of correct texture, colour with well defined markings. She didn’t put a paw wrong!! Could not deny her BB and in the challenge she outshone the male for BIS. 2nd – Palmer – Shelderon Sugar and Spice – A lot to like about this girl, darker in colour than the winner but nicely put together. Correct feminine head with defined spectacles, coat correct with correct markings, moved really well, unfortunate to meet the winner.
PGB (6, 2) 1st – Pattison – Eastkees Blue Diamond – Won this class primarily on movement. Head correct with good eye shape and placement. Pretty expression with sweet neat ears. Coat of nice length and colour, movement was 1st class held her topline well. 2nd – Brunt – Waatan Gleditsia (Imp FIN) – Another pretty bitch with a slightly better coat and colour, nicely boned and excellent tail carriage just lost out on movement. 3rd – Palmer – Shelderon Sweet Sorrel – At first glance I thought she would win this class as from the side she excels in breed type, fantastic markings, pretty head, excellent coat but was disappointed in her front movement and I couldn’t justify a higher placing, which is a shame as she very pretty.
LB (2, 1) 1st – Palmer – Shelderon Summer Sparkle – I have judged this girl as a pup and she has come on in leaps and bounds. A nicely shaped girl all feminine with a lovely pretty head with a correct coat with clear colour, nicely held tail and excellent topline, moved really well and really pushed for top honours.
OB (3, 0) 1st – Gregory – CH Amikirs Bubblelicious JW – A fabulous champion and well deserved. Totally excelled in breed type but her daughter totally outshone her!! Excellent size, correct foxy head with a sweet girly expression, correct coat with clear definition of colour. Moved very well and pushed hard. 2nd – Marfleet – Flatmeer Fleurette – A naughty girl but in a nice way!! Full of life! Correct head, nice eye shape with lovely spectacles. Nicely bodied with a correct coat with clear colour, moved well with correct tail carriage, ran 1 closely. 3rd – Fitches – Samoykees Exclusive Moon – Another lovely girl, nicely boned and nice head, walked well, ears slightly big for me and there was no clear colour distinction.
VB (2, 0) 1st – Gate – Lacetrom Cruivie ShCM – Have always admired this lady from ringside and she didn’t disappoint, full of breed type, nicely sized, pretty feminine head with correct eyes and neat ears. Clear coat colour, slightly profuse but beautifully groomed, moved well with straight front and moved with drive, out performed her kennel mate for BVIS. 2nd – Burgess – Reesburg Rock Rose – 10yr old mature lady, who doesn’t actually show her age!! A bit shy on the teeth but reason explained, a pretty head with mature ‘glitter’ strands, beautiful markings and profuse coat, moved ok when she got going.
Special Vintage Bitch (4, 0) 1st – Hill – Plymkees Limited Edition ShCM – A lovely lady that belies her years, stood out in this class, moved really well for her age, could still show the youngsters what to do. Pretty feminine head albeit mature with ‘glitter’ strands, well up for size, coat of correct texture still with clear colour and markings. 2nd – Burgess – Venway Zoe with Reesburg 3rd – Burgess – Venway Zara. These 2 were 2 peas in a pod, litter sisters at the grand young age of 14!!! Still good examples of the breed, correct heads albeit mature, coats still of good quality with clear markings and colour, movement a bit tempered but 2 classy ladies who enjoyed their time in the ring today, a pleasure to go over. The 2nd bitch just had a better expression than her sister.
Breeders Bitch (2, 0) 1st – Gregory – Amikirs Fabulicious Time JW. 2nd – Stubbings – Vandersee Wedding Belle – A lovely bitch with a lovely coat with nice and clear colour. A pretty feminine head with correct eyes with spectacles and neat ears. Moved well just preferred the winner.
Special Not Bred By Exhibitor (3, 0) 1st – Pattisons – Lucky Lady – 9 months very pretty bitch, such a cutie, such a sweet feminine head with everything in the right place, coat of correct colour and markings, moved very well still needs more time which I’m sure will come, pushed for BPB just lost out in the challenge. 2nd – Hill – Whizzkees Ebony Silver For Plymkees JW ShCM – Slightly larger in type and lighter in colour. She was quite a chatterbox but that did not detract from her overall shape which was balanced. Pretty head with expressive eyes, moved quite well, just unfortunate to come up against the pup. 3rd – Kerr – Caraspitz Good Luck Charm

Special Awards Classes Show Critique
I would like to thank the North of England Keeshond Club for giving me the honour of judging these Special Awards Classes. I could not have been made to feel more welcome by their superb officers, committee and membership. The three course lunch was amazing and my steward was so kind and a great help to me. Thank you too, to everyone who allowed me the pleasure of going over their lovely dogs all of whom, without exception, were blessed with a good helping of that certain Keeshond magic.
Special Yearling Dog or Bitch (6, 2)
1. Brunt – Zandvoort Purrsonal Life (AI) (d) 14 mth. Attractive square outline with short back, good reach of neck and high set tail. Good overall construction and depth of brisket. Well boned. Harsh coat with clear colour and markings. Lovely wedge shaped head with well pronounced stop. Dark almond eye, superb spectacles and neat ears. Catlike feet. Sound brisk movement. 2. Palmer – Shelderon Super Steller (b) 6 mth. Raw puppy but already showing promise. Well-constructed square outline with good bone and length of leg. Tight high set tail. Dark almond eye, well placed ears and cheeky feminine expression. Lots of fun puppy exuberance but when steadied moved soundly. 3. Gregory – Amikirs Fabulicious Time JW (b) 18 mth. Balanced outline with good reach of neck, correct shoulder and high set tail. Foxy head with neat ivy ears, dark almond eye and good spectacles. Lovely well marked harsh coat of clear colour. Good bone and feet. Was a little unsettled on the move.
Special Post Graduate Dog or Bitch (6, -)
1. Fusco – Amikirs Lord of the Bubbles (d) 18 mth. Balanced profile with high set tail. Beautiful harsh coat, well-marked and of lovely colour. Good bone, depth of brisket and rib spring. Correct wedge shaped head and loved his masculine yet kind expression. Neat ears. Would have preferred a slightly darker eye. Moved well fore and aft. 2. Grahamslaw – Shelderon Spirit Walker (d) 2½ yr. Soundly constructed with good bone and tail set. Would prefer a slightly more compact body. Correct dark eye, neat ears and tight feet. Attractive coat of good colour, harsh and well-marked. Could have shown himself off better today. 3. Brunt – Waatan Gleditsia (Imp Fin) (b) 21 mths. Attractive larger, marginally longer, bitch with eye-catching harsh coat of excellent colour and definition. Well plumed tail held a little looser today. Sweet expressive dark almond eye, moderate stop and neat ears. Good bone and catlike feet. Moved so soundly.
Special open Dog or Bitch (6, -)
1.Gregory – Ch Amikirs Bubblelicious JW (b) 3½ yr. Attractive outline, good lay of shoulder and neck reach. Beautifully coloured and marked harsh coat. High set tail. Foxy head with dark almond eye, clearly defined spectacles and neat ears. Catlike feet and good bone. Sound on the move. 2. Stubbings – Vandersee Wedding Belle (b) 5½ yr. Feminine well-constructed bitch with good shoulder lay and topline. Slightly longer cast though does not distract. Well-shaped head with dark, correct eye and good spectacles. Has the sweetest expression. Attractive harsh well-coloured coat. Neat catlike feet. Moved and showed well. 3. Kerr – Allforus Curly Wurly (d) 7 yr. Pleasing outline with beautiful dark clearly marked harsh coat. Attractive masculine wedge shaped head and dark almond eye with neat ears. High set tail, good bone and catlike feet. Moved well in front but a little close behind though still had correct reach and drive.
