Birmingham National Championship Dog Show 8th May 2014
Keeshonds – Judge: Brian Curry
My grateful thanks to the President, Secretary and Committee of Birmingham National Dog Show for the opportunity to judge at this, one of my favourite shows. Not the largest of entries today but not too bad considering many of our regular exhibitors were in the USA at the Keeshond Nationals. Thank you to the exhibitors who did attend on the day.
Unfortunately, over the last few years I have noticed two traits developing in the breed; long backs, too short in the leg both of which appear to be accepted by breeders, exhibitors and many judges as being the norm. How sad, what happened to the correct Keeshond with a good length of leg presenting a square outline.

JD: (2) 1. Lindsay’s Mezanda Madog’s Storm. 12 months old, a little long in body. Tail well placed and held close to his body. Nice neck and shoulders, good spring of rib. Strong coat colour and markings clearly defined, good coat texture. He has a pleasing head shape, eyes are well placed and shaped although could be darker, ear placement ok. Moved well in both directions and stood foursquare. 2. Harris’s Neradmik All About The Boy For Watchkees. 14 months old, another youngster who could be more compact. Not as well developed in depth of chest as the first in class. Good dark eyes, well placed ears although I would like them smaller. Enough coat and sufficient markings for his age and when settled he moved well for his owner.
PGD: (3.2) 1. Palmer’s Rossvale Captain Butler At Shelderon. Could do with more length of leg for correct balance. Good quality coat of a good colour, markings and texture. Lovely head with dark almond shaped and correctly placed eyes, good spectacles, ears could be a higher set but he used them well. Enough neck, good spring of rib, excellent bone, good feet and a highly set and well curled tail. Moved well in both directions. 2. Shepherd’s Kichigai Lord Of The Dance. A little longer in back than the winner of the class. Has a qood coat of the correct colour and markings. Nice head shape and well placed ears but his dark eyes are a touch round in shape. Well constructed with good bone and feet. Took time to settle but moved well when he put his mind too it.
LD: (6.5) 1. Peck, Matthews & Stewarts Klompen Who’s Your Daddy (Imp Can). Head wedge shaped when viewed from above, ears are small and well placed and his dark eyes are shown off by clearly marked spectacles. Would prefer a little less stop. He has a moderately long neck, short compact well developed body, excellent front, good length of leg, lovely bone and feet, a well set tail and a harsh, close fitting coat of a clear colour with well defined markings. Stood foursquare presenting a very pleasing outline, moved true in all directions, Dog CC. 2. Stubbing’s Vandersee Irish Guard. Not as short coupled as first. Nicely balanced head with very good eye shape and colour. Ears of a nice size and well set although he doesn’t always use them to his advantage. Nice neck and shoulders, super coat colour with well defined markings, moved well. 3. Davies Rossvale Frankly My Dear Kyross. Dog I have judged before. Has a good head and expression, well placed ears, dark eyes. Good coat with clear colour and markings. Unfortunately, too short on the leg which detracted from his overall balance.
OD: (4.3) 1. Wadmore-Smith’s Ch Hunnivoles Woody Valentine JW. Well-known champion, pleasing outline, good neck and shoulders, compact, well developed body, tail well set and curled. Well shaped head, good eye shape, colour and placement enhanced by well defined spectacles. Uses his ears very well. Good bone and tight feet. Excellent coat colour and markings, harsh texture. Moved well. A worthy champion, Reserve Dog CC. 2. Brunt’s Sueacres Iced Diamond Of Zandvort. Nice head and expression, dark well shaped eye. Good reach of neck, well constructed body, tail well set and curled. Good colour and markings. Unfortunately, took some time to settle on the move and would not pull himself together in the line up. 3. Wogan’s Ir Ch Neradmik Beach Boy Avec Deminiac. A bigger boy carrying a wealth of silver grey coloured coat. Would like him a little shorter in back, excellent bone and feet.

MPB: (1.1) 1. Hattersley’s Torrikees Sea Breeze TAF. Stood alone, 7 months old, outgoing little character, presenting a square outline with a good length of leg and reach of neck. Well placed tail with a nice curl, sufficient bone. Everything as it should be for her young age. Attractive wedge shaped head and pleasing expression, dark eyes and well placed ears. Moved very well for her first show.
PB: (3.1) 1. Brown’s Rossvale Hidden Destiny, 9 months old bitch with many positive attributes. Nearly square in outline, with a good reach of neck, high set and well plumed tail. Nice depth of chest, excellent bone and feet. Wedge shaped head, dark eye with clear spectacles and well placed ears all producing a pleasing expression. Good coat colour and markings for her age. Very well schooled and moved well. 2. Brunt’s Sueacres Platignum Diamond For Zandvort. 11 months old, longer in body than the winner. Attractive head and expression, dark well shaped eye. Good neck and shoulders, could have more spring of rib, well placed tail. Attractive coat colour and markings. Moved ok.
JB: (2.0) 1. Wogan’s Neradmik Uptown Girl Deminiac. Impressive youngster, put up a very good performance from first coming in to the ring. Full of breed type, very feminine, well balanced head, correct expression, ear set and good neck, nice to go over. Well placed tail, lovely coat and sound movement. I really liked her, Bitch CC and Best of Breed. 2. Gregory’s Amikirs Bubblelicious. Attractive bitch, not so close coupled as the first in the class. Lovely head, good ears and dark well shaped eyes. Well placed tail, good coat colour and markings. Moved at one with her handler.
PGB: (3.0) 1. White’s Neradmik Meant To Be with Witchakees. Took my eye when she entered the ring. Good overall shape, neck and tailset. Excellent bone and body properties. Pleasing head and expression, lovely coat colour and markings. A bigger bitch but not coarse. Presented a pleasing picture standing and topped it off by moving well. 2. Bardsley’s Neradmik High Society At Skathki. Nice sized bitch, a little longer in body. Well sprung ribs, good bone and a well set tail with nice plume, Nice head with dark well shaped eyes, ears a little wide set and a shade large. Moved well coming and going. 3. Brunt’s Bargeway Nearly An Angel Of Zandvort. A little long coupled. Good neck and shoulders, enough bone for size.
LB. (7.1) Lovely class of bitches. 1. Feist’s Neradmik Kissing Game. Very feminine in outlook and although not quite square in outline she still presented a pleasing picture in a good coat of a lovely colour, with a high set well plumed tail. Good neck running down into a well developed body with excellent bone and neat feet. Balanced head proportions with very dark eyes, her ears are well placed although a little large but she uses them very well. Sound movement. Reserve Bitch CC 2. Hickson’s Kichigai Ups A Daisy. Lovely outline, very good reach of neck. Very good to go over, although needs to loose a little weight. Good spring of rib, high set tail. Lovely, coat colour with well defined markings. Moved very well. 3. Reed’s Byquy Willma. Good depth of chest, well set tail. Well balanced head, good neck and front, excellent bone and feet. Coat on the blow I believe as her markings were not as well defined as I have seen them before.
OB. (1.0) Saunders Liefkees Annabell. Nearly six years old bitch. Up to size, very good overall shape and construction. High set well curled tail. Excellent coat colour and markings. Correct head with a dark eye and well placed ears, which unfortunately she was very reluctant to use when standing. Good clean movement.
