Keeshond Club. Ch Show 2nd August 2021 (Partnership with Bath)
Judge Colin Barton, (Collcrist)
My thanks to the Officers and Committee of The Keeshond Club for the invitation to judge and to the exhibitors for entering their dogs. It is an honour to judge a club show. While I especially enjoyed my day after so long without shows, it was not without some disappointment. I had expected exhibits would not be as polished in performance, while you may be able to practice in your garden, you cannot recreate “the show ring experience” and this was more evident in some than others. In previous critiques I have raised the issue of dogs carrying too much weight, this is still the case, thankfully it was not significantly worse. What was more disturbing was the lack of condition and muscle tone, I feel quite a few dogs would benefit from more road work and perhaps fewer treats. The weight and the lack of drive affected movement therefore exhibits lost places due to this, also for coats even though they come and go, a significant proportion had lost lots, this also affected placings. Please all go over your own dogs, or get a friend to do it for you, feel what the judge feels, is there a little too much of him/her, get someone to show walk them, do they have the drive? are they moving straight and true? A mature dog’s frame is fixed, but you can improve what is on it. I am pleased that some exhibits, where in top form, nicely balanced, with sufficient coat to give the correct outline. It was also pleasing to look in the catalogue at the lineage of dogs placed today, many with parents I have previously placed well.

BB: NERADMIK BERRY’S SWANSONG
RBB: BYQUY STARMAKER
BP: AMIKIRS LOVEALICIOUS
MPD – 1 1ST : WATERMYTH APOLLO. A baby of 6 months, but with remarkably clear colour and markings, head of good proportions, I’m sure will body up with maturity, movement loose now but was straight coming and going.
PD – 2 1ST :BPD: HARRIS’ AMIKIRS LOVER BOY FOR WATCHKEES. 10 months super head and expression, dark saddle with plenty of definition, well set on tail giving good outline, lost out to bitch puppy on maturity. 2ND : NEWMAN’S LEAZEHOND RED MAPLE. Larger dog, again with good definition, strong muzzle of good proportion, good ear set, nice square outline, movement a little slack today.
JD – 1 1ST : NEWMAN’S LEAZEHOND RED MAPLE. As above.
SYD – NO ENTRIES
PGD – 4 1ST: CHURCH’S SHELDERON STEMMIG SAGE WITH TYKEES. Good sound boy, attentive to handler, good tuck up and spring of rib, would like a little wider in front. 2ND: PASSMORE’S TORRIKEES CRAZY LOVE (AI). Slightly smaller boy not in best coat, solid condition, nice head and ear placement, square outline, tail well set on. 3RD: MARSHALL’S ARABESQUE AT DEVONIA (IMP RUS). Laid back dog with good definition, nice spring of rib, did not sparkle today. RES: LUSH’S EDNAARON MOONLIGHT
LD – 2 1ST: RBIS, RDCC. ROSE’S ROSSVALE ENDEAVOUR TO ESORKEES. Unsettled on the move, this may have been due to an event outside the ring, as all 3 dogs seemed affected. Correct size, well proportioned, good strong colour with definition and masculine expression. Movement was good when his handler could keep him straight. Has matured well since giving him a best puppy. 2ND: HARRIS’ KICHIGAI BOY IS BACK IN TOWN FOR WATCHKEES JW. Really alert, clear definition, pleasing expression, good spring of rib. 3RD : BARDSLEY & BAKER’S SKATHKI KING OF THE FOREST. Another laid back boy, good head with correct muzzle and body proportions, tight cat feet.
OD – 4 1ST : PECK’S KWAJONGEN HE’S A DANDY BYQUY. Well presented and shown, a fit boy in good condition, good angulation, well set on ears nice high set tail, pleasing masculine outline. 2ND : HOPKINS’ INT CH QUASARS BRILLIANT LIGHT VAN HET EARLSKAMP SERENAUBACH (IMP BEL). Darker dog super colour and definition, good muzzle proportions, with pleasing head and expression. Nice spring of rib with level topline. 3RD : ROGERS’ AUST CAN AM CH KEEZ KAUSE FOR KONCERN (IMP CAN) Would like a little more of him. Extremely well groomed and presented, his tail a little too flat to body spoiling the outline, movement sound. RES : LINDSAY’S MEZANDA MERRY STARSHOWER
CD– 4, 1AB 1ST: BIS. DCC. BARDSLEY’S CH SKATHKI JUST GOT WICKED. What a boy. Good colour and definition, masculine without being coarse, good size excellent proportions. The sparkle and drive with real Keesy boy attitude, kept his handler on her toes. 2ND : MILES & DEAN’ S CH NERADMIK FAMILY AFFAIR WITH LEKKERBEK. Good head and expression, good reach of neck and spring of rib, no mistaking him for anything but a boy Keesy. 3RD: MATTHEWS & RANSLEY’S CH SZARYK DUTCH BARGE MASTER WITH VALINDALE. Another worthy champion, I was spoiled for choice in this class. Liked his ear placement and tail set, has everything you would want in a champion, I would prefer a slightly darker eye.
VD – 4 1ST: BVIS. MILES, CULLEN & BROWN’S CH ROSSVALE’S LEGACY FOR LEKKERBEK, Eight and a half but not slowing down, good colour, definition a strong masculine boy with good reach of neck, good movement coming and going. 2ND : ROSE’S CH ROSSVALE MASTER OF DESTINY FOR ESORKEES. Just turned 8 years, a quality dog who is carrying the years well, a little laid back today, moved quite well. Good muzzle proportions and really dark eye. 3RD : NEWMAN’S LEAZEHOND LIGHTNING BOLT. A week off his 9th birthday and another who does not look a veteran, Darker saddle, with good markings, sound coming and going, well set on tail. 4TH : BAKER’S NERADMIK BOY NEXT DOOR

MPB – 3 1ST : LINDSAY’S WATERMYTH CASSIEOPIA BY MEZANDA. Sweet feminine baby of 6 months, helped by nice head and markings, colour really clear for age. Level topline, but I had flattend her coat going over shoulders and initially thought she was bottom high. 2ND : BELL’S ALLFORUS ETERNAL FLAME. Another sweet feminine baby of 7and half months, just lost out to 1 on balance, I think she has just had a growing spurt and gone up on the leg, waiting for rest to catch up. 3RD : AXFORD & SHERWOOD’S WATERMYTH CALYPSO, Much the same critique as 1 but would like a little wider at the front.
PB – 2 1ST: BPIS. GREGORY’S AMIKIRS LOVEALICIOUS. 10 months old and really mature, cannot call her a baby but so feminine, well presented and shown, the only thing giving her age away was puppy fluff around the ears, dark eye nice and compact, with good balance and proportions. Sound movement. One to watch. 2ND: CHURCH’S TYKEES IT’S JUST A PHASE. A little fazed by her day out, but perked up when moving, would prefer a smaller ear, but possibly not everything is growing at the same speed, feminine and good proportions.
JUNIOR BITCH – 1AB
SYB – 3 1ST: GREGORY’S AMIKIRS LOVEALICIOUS. As puppy bitch. 2ND : MARSHALL’S DEVONIA BLACK PEARL. Good wedge to head with correct proportions, dark eye with pleasing expression. Well set on tail. 3RD : NEWMAN’S MOONDANCE FOR LEAZEHOND DEL MONTE DRAGNONE (IMP ITA). Good muzzle proportions, correct ear placement, tight curl to tail well set on, really nice tuck up and waist.
PGB – 4 1ST: HOPKINS’ SERENAUBACH AURORAS DANCE. Pretty feminine girl of good size who along with others in class, has lost to much coat. Good ear set, good tuck up and tight feet, moved well. 2ND: CHURCH’S LEAZEHOND AMBER STEPPES FOR TYKEES. While short of coat what she had was of good colour and texture, good reach of neck, nice spring of rib 3RD : AXFORD & SHERWOOD’S KWAJONGEN SHE’S A MODEL FOR BYQUY. Good colour and correct ear set, tight cat feet, moved soundly. RES : NEWMAN’S MOONDANCE FOR LEAZEHOND DEL MONTE DRAGNONE (IMP ITA)
LB – 6, 1AB 1ST: BCC. BOS. SHARP-BALE’S NERADMIK BERRY’S SWANSONG. For me, the image of her dam can be no better compliment to this girl. Consummate showgirl, well presented and handled, everything in the right place and correct amount, she has even managed to hang on to her coat, wonderful balance and outline. 2ND: RBCC. PECK’S BYQUY STARMAKER. A girl in stunning form, correct head, enough reach of neck, with good proportions, in fine condition, good tuck up and waist moved well coming and going. 3RD : SAUNDERS’ LIEFKEES ADINA. A more traditional girl, with a dense fitted jacket, pleasing proportions, sound movement. RES : AXFORD & SHERWOOD’S LILLI MARLINA OF WATERMYTH VHC : NEWMAN’S LEAZEHOND PRAIRIE FLOWER
OB – 2 1ST : ROGERS’ CAN AM CH CEDARHILLS SHAMROCK FOREIGN EXCHANGE AT KEEZ (IMP CAN). A lighter coloured girl but still with good definition, good head and proportions, pleasing expression, good tuck up and movement, lost out in challenge as wispy bits on her coat, spoiled the outline. 2ND: PASSMORE’S CH TORRIKEES LUST FOR LIFE. Lovely dense coat of good colour and texture, correct proportions, sound coming and going, good plume of tail well set on.
CB – 2 1ST : LINDSAY’S CH COSMIC DREAMS DAMN YOU LOOK GOOD FOR MEZANDA (IMP NOR). Good size, nice reach of neck, lovely plume of tail well set on, pleasing proportions, good tuck up, moved soundly. 2ND : WHITE’S CH NERADMIK VANILLA ICE MORVANIA. Darker girl, with good definition and markings, feminine with pleasing expression, good muzzle and body proportions, well balanced, did not have the sparkle of 1 today.
