The Keeshond Club – Championship Show (Stafford) 25th September 2021
My thanks to the committee for their kind invitation to judge this show which was held in conjunction with the National’s Championship Show. As we were third in the ring there was understandably some delays in getting started for which I thank exhibitors show of patience. My overall view of the entry was that we are currently seeing rather varied types being exhibited which from a judges point of view makes it difficult to demonstrate consistent line-ups. Spectacle markings were defined in most. I am definitely not anti bait but wish handlers would use it as an incentive to show and as a reward for good performance and not as a non stop meal in the ring!
J(1) 1st Harris Amikirs Lover Boy for Watchkees, displaying good development at just turned 12m, presents a compact outline with head carried on good neck, flat skull with defined stop and erect ears, straight forelimbs with elbows held firm, well ribbed up and topline level, high set curled tail, turn to stifle, reasonable feet, quality coat without excess, free controlled mover.
PG(3) 1st Brunt Divnyi Drug Dar, handy size 2.5yo, liked the layout of his head, neat ears of decent shape well placed, defined stop, head is carried on a good neck, straight front down to round feet, well ribbed up, tail carried high, well defined hindquarters, tidy mover sporting quality coat. 2nd Lush Edaaron Moon Light, well grown and balanced with dark eyes a tad bold, broad chest, well ribbed up, level topline, would prefer firmer pasterns, high tail carriage, excellent texture coat. 3rd Wilkin Whizzkees Quicksilver, masculine 2yo presenting compact outline, ears rather detract from expression, flat skull, good topline and ribcage, curled tail, decent coat, touch close rear.
L(5,1abs) 1st Harris Kichagi Boy Is Back In Town For Watchkees, 3yo, very compact and balanced whichever direction you look at him, skull to suit with OK ears and not oversized dark eyes, sound front assembly with elbows held firm, short coupled, high set tail, well modelled hindquarters, tidy purposeful mover shown in harsh coat, put on a good show to take the RCC. 2nd Marshall Arabesque at Devonia, pretty square in outline, could use neck to better advantage and preferred expression of above, level topline and ribs sprung, sound hindquarters, harsh coat, free mover. 3rd Rose Rossvale Endeavour to Esorkees, masculine outline, would prefer neater ears, defined stop, decent round feet, curled tail carried high, good hindquarters and a fair mover sporting quality coat.
O(5) 1st Rogers Multi Ch Keez Kause for Koncern Chof RN, My surprise for the day to find this 11yo to top the lot, he is compact and such dogs can give the impression of being on the smaller side yet he has it all without me having to list his catalogue of virtues. Needless to say he was in top body form with coat to suit and performed to great advantage. CC & BOB. I understand he also took BOB earlier in the day and combined this with a group short listing and can now add English Ch to his achievements. 2nd Lindsay Mexanda Merry Starshower, slightly more on the leg and retaining balance althrough, flat skull and defined stop, would prefer less bold eyes, clean neck into straight front, well ribbed up, also short coupled, sound hindquarters and action. 3rd Hickson Ch Kichagi Only The Lonely, 6yo with compact outline, ears detract, decent front down to round feet, high tail carriage, good hindquarters and steady action.
CH DOG(2,1abs) 1st Miles & Dean Ch Neradamik Kiss Chase With Lekkerbek, 6yo, well grown and shown in full coat, masculine headpiece, good dark eye of correct shape, defined stop, super front, excellent neck, high set curled tail, decent hindquarters, attentive showman, steady purposeful mover.
V(3,2abs) 1st Newman Leazehond Lightning Bolt, square, scored slightly in smaller ears, broad flat skull, dark eyes, defined stop, decent front assembly down to round feet, well rounded ribcage, defined hindquarters, full coat and a free mover. 2nd Miles, Cullen and Brown Ch Rossvales Legacy for Lekkerbek, 8yo , just slightly preferred eyes and ears of above, straight forelimbs and firm elbows, level topline, short coupled, high tail carriage, easy mover.
MP(3) 1st Lee & Matthews Winklestar Aurora at Valindale, 7.5mo, well grown and keeping her balanced shape, head well laid out, flat skull, defined stop, super eye being small and dark, straight front, well ribbed up, good topline and short coupled, admired her tail carriage with curl, powerful hindquarters, frisky on the move but sound, BPIS. 2nd Lindsay Watermyth Cassiopeia by Mezanda, another frisky baby who took a while to concentrate on proceedings, up on leg but retaining balance, preferred eyes of above, super tailset and curl, modelled rear, 3rd Lush Dianakees Carolina Moon, the real baby here, just needs time to mature on and get it all together, head properties need to develop and has time to fill her framework, has a delightful temperament.
P(2) 1st Axford Watermyth Calypso, 8mo and well grown, up on leg but balanced, head well laid out, dark eyes, would prefer smaller ears, pasterns need to tighten up, ribcage developing well, high set curled tail, free mover. 2nd Lush Dianakees Carolina Moon.
J(1) 1st Gregory Amikirs Lovealicious, just turned 1 year and showing promise for her age, attractive head piece with attributes well distributed and eyes dark, good front and ribcage, high set and curled tail, steady purposeful mover, quality coat coming.
SpY(2,1abs) 1st Devonia Black Pearl, well grown feminine 18 mo, would prefer neater ears, eyes dark, defined stop, ribs good for age, firm loin, high tail carriage, turn to stifle, quality coat coming, easy mover.
PG(3,1abs) 1st Hill Whizzkees Silver Spirit, 2.5yo of a more upstanding type but maintaining neat outline, head attributes well laid out, decent front assembly and feet, some arch to neck, short coupled , would benefit from tightening up to rear. 2nd Brunt Almaznyi Istochnik Tropicheskaya Noch, was close up here, projects a compact outline, head properties neatly laid out, straight forelimbs, arch to neck, short, firm loin, high curled tail, comparable rear action.
L(6,2abs) 1st Peck Byquy Starmaker, found this almost 2yo to be very honest in her construction which was confirmed on examination, her head is balanced with super dark eyes, giving appeal to her expression, she has a powerful neck and decent shoulders, balance between fore and aft allows for steady meaningful, action, RCC. 2nd Lilli Marlina of Watermyth, found this girl to be ultra feminine with substance, she has dark eyes, defined stop and a decent front assembly backed up by a developed ribcage, good topline, easy mover, maybe not quite in full coat, meaningful mover. 3rd McKean Kichigai It Takes Two, another with a very feminine outlook giving an appealing expression, dark eyes, broad front, well ribbed up, level topline, high set tail with curl, just needs to tighten up behind.
O(3) 1st Rogers Multi Ch Cedarhills-Shamrock Foreign Exchange at Keez, another delight from overseas, well grown but Oh So feminine and giving nothing away in substance, just loved her head and the layout of its attributes combining to give a delightful expression, has leg length allowing some daylight underneath with just the right amount of body coat, I understand she is also a proven brood, congratulations on owning a dual purpose madam, rather like her kennel mate one could go on extolling her virtues at length. I hope she goes on to complete her UK Title. CC. 2nd Sharpe-Bale CH Neradamik Berry’s Swan Song, this 2.5yo has not quite the femininity nor clean cut outline I was looking for today, she carries strong substance and a full coat which tipped the balance in 1’s favour. 3rd MCkean This Girl Is Mine at Yawren, This girl is well put together with an appealing head well laid out, she is feminine with sufficient substance and a well sprung ribcage and firm loin, her hindquarters are well defined and she is a steady mover.
V(2) 1st Brunt Ch Vanstrand Quantum of Solace, 9.5yo admired before, head features well distributed, dark eyes, straight front with firm elbows down to good feet and pasterns, free mover, not quite in full coat today. 2nd Hill Whizzkees Ebony Silver For Plumes, this 7yo was enjoying her day out and determined to make life difficult for her handler, she is soundly constructed with a mischievous look in her dark eyes, coat well prepared and fairly typical for this time of year.
