Special awards classes – judge Charlotte Craig
Many thanks to the North of England Keeshond Club for inviting me to judge their special awards classes. As my first judging appointment it was very special to do it at a show I used to come to so much as a young girl. As a veterinary nurse I was mostly happy with the presentation of the exhibits today, most having teeth of good condition for their age. My only concern was a few exhibits whose body condition was heavier than it should be.
Special yearling D/B (2, 1 ab) Both of these dogs gave their handlers a hard time today! 1 Miles, Dean, Cullen & Cullen’s Skyline’s Outlander at Lekkerbek (IMP USA). 13-month male with lots of promise. Excellent coat colour & markings. Structurally sound, compact body which made for a lovely outline when stood still. Movement slightly erratic today but good once settled. Should come on well with more practice! 2 Gardner’s Bargeway Country Boy at Manzanakees. Just a baby at 6 months old which did show today, credit to his owner though for persevering! Lovely almond shaped eyes. Coat still in puppy phase but coming on well – will be interested to see him once fully developed. Movement of 1 was more settled at times so unfortunately cost this one the win.
Special post graduate D/B (1) 1 Saunders Liefkees Aleida. A very pretty 2-year-old bitch – sadly out of coat today but colour was exceptional otherwise. Difficult to assess mouth today – perhaps some more ringcraft training would help… Good bone & body underneath coat. Another who was a little erratic on the move today but perhaps some distractions outside of the ring.
Open D/B (3) 1 Burnett’s Torrikees We Will Rock You. A lovely 2-year-old male of good size with a great jacket on him, albeit slightly brown in the odd place. Had the best movement of the class with the correct scissor action. Lovely masculine face with correct pencil markings & dark muzzle. Profuse tail with a tight double curl. Good bone & body overall. 2 Saunders Liefkees Amore. Litter mate to 1 in PG, shares many of the same virtues and unfortunately also out of coat. Movement not great today but again, perhaps distractions outside of the ring. Nice tidy cat like feet today which in a full coat would make a pleasing outline. 3 Potts Shelderon The Legal Eagle. 4-year-old bitch with a lovely feminine face – very pleasing to the eye. Coat of lovely colour & texture but length creating an illusion of shorter legs compared to others in the class. More settled on the move compared to 2 but unfortunately, she was carrying too much in the body which affected the quality of her movement today.

North of England Keeshond Club Open Show
Sunday 17th November 2024.
I would like to thank the officers and committee for inviting me to judge your beautiful breed at your open show this November. I received the most fabulous quality entry and I would like to thank all who entered and took my placing so sportingly. I was helped along the way with my efficient steward Mr Steve Brown. I found that all dogs had super tempraments, and all were turned out in immaculate coat condition. Please be careful not to get your dogs over weight, this today was a concern.
Best in Show Mrs G Brunt Ch Divnyi Drug Dar (Imp Rus) I have judge the dog before as a youngster, I liked him then and he did not disappoint, he has matured well. Again he stands square on good legs, he generates a wonderful outline, and he sports profuse trousers. Correct wedge to head, dark muzzle, and nose black. Eyes dark and almond shaped with correct spectacles. Ears set well on and off a good ivy shape, arched neck flowing into well sloped shoulders. Nice ruff around neck. He is ribbed well back, short body, tail set high with correct double curl and black tip. A free and easy mover, a true showman and turned out in good show condition.
Reserve Best in Show Harris Ch Amikirs Lover Boy for Watchkees. A quality youngster every bit a champion, short and compact stand square on well boned forelegs sat on neat cat feet. Excelled in head and expression, with correct head ratio, dark muzzle, with good width, correct scissor bite, lips black. Ears set well and used to full advantage. Nicely arched neck flowing into good shoulders, well ribbed back with strength to loin. Well muscled rear, tail set high tightly curled over back with correct black tip. He demonstrated a sharp brisk gait, shown in excellent show condition.
Best opposite Sex in Show Brunt Zandvoort Moonlight. 13 month old feminine bitch, lovely head and expression, dark almond eye with correct spectacles. Short and compact, she stands well on straight forelegs sat on neat feet, ribbed well back, she has strength in loin leading to a muscular rear, which gives her the tools to generate her brisk clean movement. She has a bright future.
Best Puppy In Show Gardner Bargeway Country Boy at Manzanakees . Attending his first show at just 6 months old, he was full of breed quality and naughtiness. Short and compact all through with a foxy wedge head, ears set well and used to full advantage, he stands strong on straight forelegs with good bone. Muscular rear, tight curl on a high set tail, once he learns his trade he will go far. Moved well for one so young, allot to like.
Best Veteran in Show Hickson Ch Kichigal’s Only The Lonley another male that I have previously judge, and done him well, he has retained all his virtues a quality moving dog, compact and stands well on good legs with plenty of bone, he has a profuse ruff, ribbed well back with strength in loin, muscular rear. He has the most masculine head and expression with a dark almond eye, ears of correct size and ivy shape. Comes alive on the move. So wonderful to see him as a fabulous veteran.
