Apologies for a lack of notes, but at the moment time seems to be even flying by faster than the shows, which are coming in thick and fast with a Ch show every weekend at the moment Two weeks ago it was Three Counties where our judge was Natasha Hickson (Natlou) was judging without CC’s….
Well I don’t know what happened to last week but it vanished in a flash before I could finish off my notes for the Bath weekend. So I’ve combined the 2 weeks for a bumper Jubilee issue!! Our judge at Bath was all-rounder Mark Cocozza (who last judged Keesies at Birmingham National in 2017) on…
At SKC our judge was Caron Bell (Allforus) who last judged us at Blackpool in 2017 and it was a bright and early start as we were first in the ring with a 9.00am start. Caron had drawn an entry of 22 Keesies with 5 absentees. There were no entries in either of the Puppy…
Apart from Birmingham National, last weekend also saw a second round of the Scottish Keesie walks; first up on Saturday 7th was the North of Scotland Keesie walk. They decided on Roseisle which is a lovely beach and part forest within dunes, situated near Burghead on the beautiful Moray coast and a very popular place…
At Birmingham National last Thursday, our judge was well known all-rounder Tom Mather awarding us CC’s for the second time (his first appointment was at SKC in 2018) Keesies were first in the ring with a 9.00am and Tom had drawn an entry of 38 dogs with 8 absentees. The lower classes were somewhat sparse…
At WELKS it was a bright and early start as we were 1st in ring at 9.30am for judge Liz Cartledge who last judged us at the Keeshond Club’s Ch show in 2017. Liz had drawn an entry of 32 Keesies with 10 absentees, with the lower classes being particularly sparse. There were no entries…
I have to start this week’s notes with a huge apology to Gill Brunt & Darik (Divnyi Drug Dar (Imp Rus)) as it was Darik who got awarded Best in Show at the Keeshond Club’s Ch show the other weekend. Jane Ring and Dolly (Neradmik Tantrums ‘N’ Tiaras) were Reserve Best in Show and Best…
It was an early start for Keesies exhibitors at the Keeshond Club’s Ch Show held at Stoneleigh last weekend as judging was scheduled to start at 9.00am. Judge Rony Doedijns from the Nederlands (who last judged us at Birmingham City in 2019) had drawn an entry of 60 Keesies with 10 absentees and with only…
A final reminder (as if any of you need one!) for the first eye testing session we are holding next week at the Keeshond Club Ch Show on Saturday 9th April at the Kennel Club Building, Stoneleigh CV8 2LZ. Older dogs’ eyes in particular should be examined regularly for a number of reasons as several…
At BUBA’s open show last weekend, the Keesie judge Jan Mason found her BOB in Matthews & Lee’s Winklestar Aurora at Valindale (Vivids Majestic Prince of Winklestar (IMP USA) x Winklestar Serendipity) who was handled by her owner Tracy Lee. It ended up being a long day, but worth it as young Rita then went…
As expected, it ended up being a very long day for Keesie exhibitors at Crufts, as we were second in the ring after an entry of 49 Schnauzers who had been given a late start of 10.30am. It meant everyone hanging around all morning until our judging eventually began at 1.30pm, finishing around 4.00pm. Although…
Apologies for not mentioning the Club’s annual trophies in my notes for last week. Cup steward Gill Brunt had managed to get the majority returned over the past 18 months (which was no mean feat) ready for handing out. In previous years, the announcement of the winners (& handing out) is at the AGM, but…
The North of England Keeshond Club had a lucky escape as Storm Eunice, who’d made her presence felt tearing across the country the day before had just about blown herself away. Although Saturday dawned dry and bright, the rain soon started, turning to very wet snow which persisted until just after lunchtime. The show started…
For our forthcoming show on Saturday, Thorpe Willoughby Village Hall has advised us that as a Covid precaution, we aren’t allowed to use their chairs; so you’ll need to remember to bring your own with you. Apart from the fact that it is mid-February, it might be an idea if everyone wraps up extra warmly…
The Keeshond Club held their January Open Show on a very blustery Saturday, held as usual at Roade Village Hall. The judge was Sue Wilkes (Dakaraikees) who had drawn an entry of 32 dogs with 9 absentees. Both the Puppy Dog & Novice Dog were absent and there were no entries at all in the…
At Manchester our judge was Robin Searle (last judged us at Blackpool in 2014) and he had drawn an entry of 35 Keesies with just 4 absentees. We were scheduled to be first in the ring with a 9.00am start; bur unfortunately due to Robin arriving late, we didn’t actually start until 9.40am, but once…
A very successful Yorkshire Keesie meet up at Temple Newsam was held on Sunday, where 17 Keesies and their owners turned up and apologies from a couple more who couldn’t make it. There was me with Olympia, Tooin & Fiver, Gill with Susie, Samba, Nadia & Coco, Kathryn & Blane with Bella, Kitty & her…
Boston was the first show of the year and Keesies were scheduled to be second in the Best in Show ring after 110 Tibetan Terriers. We were eventually moved to the (empty) ring next door and judging finally started at 1.30pm and was over just after 2.45pm. Our judge was Donna Whincup who had drawn…
I hope the weather in this first week of January isn’t a portent of what’s to come – an almost tropical 15˚ here in Yorkshire on New Year’s Day and then just 3 days later it was -4˚ with frozen snow & ice. But it certainly didn’t deter everyone who took part in the first…
My last notes for 2021 and it’s certainly been a different year for most, if not all of us. With lockdown meaning no shows including Crufts for the first six months, the shows burst onto the scene together. With a Ch show every weekend (two Ch shows on a day with the Club Ch shows)…
Dave Robbins (who last judged us at South Wales Kennel Association in 2017) was our judge at LKA and had drawn an entry of 35 dogs with 10 absentees. Keesies were second in the ring after an entry of 54 Schnauzers, who had a 9.00am start, so it was around 11.00am before judging started and…
Steve Brown (Rossvale) was our judge at BUBA (he last judged Keesies at the Keeshond Club Ch show in 2019) and Keesies were were first in the ring with a 9.30am start. Steve had drawn an entry of 32 dogs with 8 absentees and judging was over before 11.30am. The Dog CC with Best of…
Some sad news that Mary Randall (Candymay) died on the 1st November aged 97. Mary and John Randall’s first keesie – Seyn Blackie was born in 1948 and she was the beginning of a 50 year plus love affair with the breed. John & Mary’s most memorable day probably was at Crufts in 1973 when…
With only two more Ch shows to go this year – BUBA & LKA, I thought I’d do a quick overview of show entries, as much was made this summer about the shows returning. Would they come back bigger and better, be the same or smaller and different than pre Covid? Would the exhibitors flock…
The Keeshond Club held their first open show of the year at the weekend; it started with the Special Award classes which were judged first by Ed Forsey who had drawn an entry of 14 dogs with 4 absentees. Winner of Special Yearling Dog or Bitch was Rachel Tew’s Torrikees Purple Rein (handled by mum…
Well, I started with good intentions as I’d written up these notes in extra quick time – and then completely forgot to upload them onto the website. I’ve always said I could be lethal with a memory – but hey ho, better late than never!! Three shows (2 with CC’s) held over a long weekend;…
For the second weekend in a row, Keesies had two championship shows on the same day; Birmingham National followed by the Keeshond Club’s postponed April 2021 Ch show. Keeshonds were scheduled to be second in the ring after an entry of 80 Lhasa Apsos, which meant it was another late start (Jane Paradise started her…
The various forecasts for Darlington weekend (especially Sunday which was Utility day) were all proven wrong as it was lovely weather for showing dogs. The day started off warm but cloudy, there was a very brief spell of fine drizzle around lunch time and then the sun came out for the afternoon and was glorious….
I don’t know what happened to last week, it just seemed to vanish; so apologies for a lack notes, although I have to say that I can’t even remember what I was going to write about!! At Richmond on Sunday, Keeshonds were second in the ring after 48 Tibetan Spaniels. Our judge was Tibby specialist…
It was Driffield’s first August Bank holiday Ch show, having swapped dates with SKC’s (ex) August show in 2020. There were no CC’s on offer and our judge, Elaine Stubbings (Vandersee) had drawn an entry of 9 keesies which was almost halved by 4 absentees. Keesies had a generous classification, which meant there were no…
For once Utility day at Blackpool didn’t draw the short straw, as despite gloomy forecasts the weather stayed fine and there was no mud even though it had chucked it down almost non-stop the day before. Cloudy with intermittent warm sunshine made for almost ideal showing weather; the nice short grass (with no wet clippings…
There were no CC’s on offer at Bournemouth Ch show where Keesie judge Sally Pointon had 8 dogs entered. We were second in the ring after 60 Bulldogs (with 18 absentees), so it wasn’t a long wait for exhibitors. Best Dog was Joan Miles and her daughter Sarah’s Ch Neradmik Kiss Chase with Lekkerbek (Ch…
At Paignton Ch show our judge was Tom Johnston who was awarding CC’s for the second time (his first appointment was at Birmingham City in 2018) he had 26 Keesies entered with 4 absentees. Keesies were second in the ring after 21 Irish Wolfhounds; but as only 14 were present judging started just gone 11.00am…
Considering the dreadful weather forecasts for the weekend, Bath had a very lucky escape – certainly for Utility day. The weather was mainly cloudy & cool, with the occasional burst of sunshine and the odd drop of rain. The society had provided plenty of outdoor space for exhibitors and most people managed to get their…
The shows are now starting to come in thick and fast now, with at least one Ch show every weekend. This weekend it was Leeds Ch show followed by the NoEKC’s Ch show carried forward from 2020. Although how long that’ll last remains to be seen as the news has just been released that Midland…
There were no CC’s on offer for Keeshonds at East of England, where our Judge Millie Lambert (Sturtmoor) had an entry of just 8 dogs. Keesies were second in the ring after 59 Dalmatians and judging started just before 2.00pm. I wonder if it was the fact that Utility day was on a Thursday (a…
The Kennel Club’s IT disaster shows no sign of improving with the priority list of work on the CRM system getting ever longer. It’s certainly not going to get better any time soon as dog shows & activities start up again and they can’t even their mission statements (at the end of every email) up…
Southern Counties was the eagerly anticipated first general Ch show not to be cancelled since Crufts last year, when the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns appeared to put paid to virtually everything apart from football. Our judge Carole Jackson (Carnor) (who last judged us at Midland Counties in 2017) had drawn an entry of 27 dogs…
Well schedules are starting to appear thick & fast and decisions are having to be made – shall I enter, who will I enter, who has or will have a coat, that is the question! It will also come as no surprise that even nearly a year later, the unmitigated disaster known as the Kennel…
Schedules for our Club Ch Show (which will be held at Harewood House with Leeds Ch Show on Friday 23 July) have now been sent to all members. This show replaces our November Ch show 2020 which was cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Please note that no printed schedules are being sent out as…
The long awaited Leeds schedule has now finally appeared on Higham Press and the Keesie judge is Janice Bannister who is awarding CC’s in the breed for the first time. Unfortunately show details are sparse to say the least, presumably Leeds committee don’t or can’t make any final decisions until Boris finally confirms the country…
By now all members should have received their Spring issue of Walkee Talkees, which was sent out almost 2 weeks ago. If you haven’t got your copy, please get in touch with news editor Andy Fitches. I know that quite a few of you have been wondering (& asking!) when the NoEKC’s schedule for its…
To tide owners over until shows resume, the NoEKC held its first online show last week which was organised very efficiently by Allison Stephenson. Many thanks to everyone who participated making it such a success and an enormous round of applause to Allison for all her hard work in getting the show up and running….
As I’ve had some discussions & been asked questions recently about hip & elbow scoring, I thought that updating & repeating my notes from 2019 with my story might not go amiss!! I started off by ringing my vet and asking how much they charged. The receptionist didn’t know, had to ask the vet on…
For the past year the NoEKC has held all its committee meetings virtually and last Saturday it was another first as it held its 2021 AGM also via Zoom – and most successful it was too! All the Officers reports etc had been previously circulated to members, so were automatically taken ‘as read’, no questions…
As people may be aware, the North of England Keeshond Club had been planning an outdoor Open Show on 16 May; but in the light of the Government’s roadmap for the lifting of the various lockdown restrictions, it is clear that that date is just too soon for us to be able to hold the…
It is with great sadness that I am reporting the death this week of our past Chairman, Gordon Lister. Gordon had been in poor health for some considerable time, but his condition deteriorated very rapidly in recent weeks – he would have been 91 in March. Gordon first joined the Committee in 1986 and was…
Considering what last year has been like with lockdowns, tiers and social distancing, I guess all in all it’s a miracle that not only did 2020 managed to exceed 2019’s dismal number of puppies born – we almost managed 100 puppies!! There were 16 litters born resulting in 92 puppies, 47 dogs and 45 bitches…
What a difference a year makes, this time last Christmas virtually no-one had heard of coronavirus and news was only slowly circulating about a nasty strain of flu in China. I don’t think that anyone could have predicted what a devastating effect it would have on the whole world – effectively putting a stop to…
No notes for ages and then 2 lots within a week, you’ll be getting spoilt!! Hot off the press from the Kennel Club are the new measures for registering progeny of imported Keeshonds regarding PHPT. Following consultation with the Keeshond Breed Health Coordinator and breed clubs, it has been agreed that all imported Keeshonds, or…
